La industria del cómic en España: radiografía de ¿un mito o una realidad?

2011

In spite of the importance of figures referred to published titles, or number of copies printed, which help to set publishing strategies and to really know the comic situation in Spain, there are no liable data. We are giving in this article, some enlightening data along with some explanations related to the evolution of the market from 2001 to 2009. The different titles are grouped considering the place they come from (Europe, Asia, United States…), along with their format (album, book, magazine, comic-book…). Using all this information, we can deduce evolution lines, tendencies, futures perspectives in an industry that, despite its precariousness, is facing an increasing number of copies …

Beetwen Berlin and Moscow: Polish Western Thought in the Twenty-Year Interwar Period

2020

The article was submitted on 27.02.2020. This article is not primarily focused on presenting arguments and views held by Polish political groups with reference to the territorial shape of the Polish state after the First World War. Instead, its aim is to draw attention to actions taken by these groups towards the defence of Polish western lands. One of the key problems of Poland’s foreign policy after 1918 was the question of relations with its neighbours, chiefly Germany and Russia (and the Soviet Union). For many years, the most serious problem faced by post-Versailles Europe was that of the Germans striving to revise the legal order, to break their political isolation, and return to the …

Identity, nation‐state and football in Spain. the evolution of nationalist feelings in Spanish Football

2007

This essay shows the importance of the identity component in the development of Spanish football from its birth at the beginning of the twentieth century, when football was organized at a regional level, until the present time when football reflects the democratic and post‐national Spain created after the arrival of democracy in the last quarter of the twentieth century. The essay expounds the existence of four periods in the development of the nationalistic feelings with which Spanish football has been embodied: the pre‐national or regional period, the period of Spanish nationalization, the period of strengthening of peripheral nationalisms and the post‐national period. In order to explain…

The 2019 Local Elections in Valencia’s Metropolitan Area

2020

Voting behaviour in Valencia’s Metropolitan Area can be split into four periods: (1) During the early years of democracy (1979-1991) following the Franco dictatorship, the area was a stronghold of the Left; (2) In 1991, the City of Valencia switched and was governed by the Right; (3) In 2011, the Right extended its control to the whole of the Metropolitan Area; (4) In the May 2015 elections, the Left won not only in the ‘red’ metropolitan belt but also in the City of Valencia. This study looks at what happened in the last set of local elections in 2019. To this end, we begin with a brief review of the election results, voting trends, and the institutional performance of each party since the…

The Slovak Nation: From Czechoslovakia to Slovakia

2009

This chapter differs in composition from the two previous ones devoted to the politics of language in Hungary and Czechoslovakia in the short 20th century. With the exception of the brief wartime interlude of independent Slovakia (1939–1945), the Slovak nation found itself residing in Czechoslovakia between 1918 and 1992. This necessitated the representation of much Slovak history, and the vicissitudes of Czech-Slovak relations in the previous chapter, which nominally was devoted to matters Czech. It would soon be demonstrated that the past of the common state of the Czech and Slovaks could not be seamlessly divided into separate Czech and Slovak parts. Likewise, numerous international even…
