Renta de emergencia familiar en Gandia

2011

Educational attainment and permanence in NEET situation among youth

2018

Using the French Labour Force Survey, this paper analyses the individual and institutional effects on the transitions into and out of NEET status before and after the crisis. In particular, we question whether the profiles or the labour market transition patterns of young people have changed since the economic crisis. The econometric results indicate that the NEET risks vary according to age, sex, educational level and social origins. They also show that the transition out of NEET status is more related to the educational attainment, after 2008. Conversely, the lack of human capital and social capital increases the retention of youth in NEET situations.

Does government spending boost economic growth in Europe?

2016

The article aims to analyse the evolution of budgetary expenditures and their relationship with economic growth, especially in the EU countries and three non-EU countries - Switzerland, Norway and Iceland during 1991 - 2012. To test the link between government spending and economic growth the research used the United Nation Classification of the Functions of Government and three econometrical regression methods – ordinary least square, least squares dummy variable and the generalized method of moments. Statistical results for the 10 categories of expenditure have shown that economic affairs, environmental protection, recreation, culture and religion and social protection have a significant …

Strategic responses of medium sized firms: The role of TMT’s perceptions and characteristics in decision making processes

2017

Many decisions made by the organization’s top management team (hereafter called indifferently TMT or top management team) have a high likelihood of failure (Nutt, 1999). This situation might be shocking but indeed, it is much more common than one might think (Bloom et al., 2012). In fact, we can easily realize this reality when reading the current business press where we will probably be confronted with several cases of failures that have been caused by any type of TMT decisions. Of course, we will also see cases of success, exemplifying managers and recipes of good practices (e.g., Eide et al., 2016; Schrage, 2013); but these will be minor. Thus, as Bloom et al. (2012) state, the group of …

Returns To Education During And After The Economic Crisis: Evidence From Latvia 2006–2012

2017

We employ EU-SILC micro data for Latvia to study how returns to education changed during the economic crisis of 2008–2009 and afterwards. We found that returns to education increased significantly during the crisis and decreased slightly during the subsequent economic recovery. The counter-cyclical effect was evident in nearly all population groups. After the crisis, education became more associated than before with a longer working week and a higher employment probability. Furthermore, we show that returns to education in Latvia are generally higher in the capital city and its suburbs than outside the capital city region, as well as for citizens of Latvia than for resident non-citizens and…

PUBLIC EXPENDITURES FOR DEVELOPMENT - THEIR ROLE IN OVERCOMING THE ECONOMIC CRISIS AND ALIGNMENT OF ROMANIA TO EUROPEAN UNION REQUIREMENTS

2011

This paper analyses the role of public capital expenditure in Romania. There were identified two important roles of public expenditures for development in Romania, currently: levers for overcoming the economic crisis, and a means to align Romania to European Union requirements stipulated in the revised Lisbon Strategy. The analysis concluded that these expenses, although with a relative value twice the EU average, experienced a strong downward trend with the economic crisis, so as they have not contributed to economic recovery. Regarding the second role, matching the EU requirements in development, has not been reached. This is demonstrated by the Lisbon index, according to which in 2008 Ro…

Com afecta la crisi al sistema de Serveis Socials

2012

The economic crisis is affecting people and societies in a different way depending on their initial situation. As far as Social Services are concerned in the Valencian Community, an analysis needs to be made of this system as it was when the crisis first emerged. Its structure is deficient and involves overlaps, in which schemes have been replaced with individual assistance, payment of subsidies takes too long and in which subjective rights, stemming from the Personal Autonomy and Care for Dependency Law and the Law on Citizens' Guaranteed Income, are poorly applied. The values crisis precedes the economic and financial crisis, which is why any possibilities of facing up to these have to se…

The role of regional competitiveness in shaping the heterogeneous impact of the Great Recession

2020

This paper assesses the employment resilience of 202 European regions to the Great Recession by investigating the role of regional competitiveness. By using the regional shift component derived from a multiple bases shift–share analysis of employment change as a measure of regional endogenous employment growth, we show that pre‐crisis regional competitiveness determinants are associated with positive performances during the crisis period. However, the variables considered explain well the different vulnerability of the economies, but less convincingly the ability to recover. Taking into account the spatial interactions among regions, results are confirmed and allow us to identify spillover …

Virtualization of work in global supply chains

2016

ABSTRACT. Background: The paper is devoted to the notion and benefits of implementing virtual work in global supply chains. Virtual work must be understood as an intentional activity of a human being, aimed at rendering services (tangible and intangible), by means of ITC tools, performed in a distance from the traditional place of work, in a mobile manner. The empirical research were conducted on the basis of 4 case studies of global leaders of supply chains, which in accordance with M. Fisher's classification, represent two types. The case studies confirmed the positive influence of virtual work both in effective and flexible supply chains. Favourable market and technological conditions an…

INTRODUCTION Global economic crisis significantly increases the pressure on reduction of cost and risk connected with the functioning of global supply chains. Among many ways to reduce the cost and the uncertainty of demand for the products of supply chain the essential one is the increase of information transparency due to modern ICT solutions.
