Influence of online transparency on efficiency. Analysis of spanish NGDOs

2020

This study examines (a) whether nongovernmental development organizations (NGDOs) disseminate relevant information for their stakeholders through their web pages, information that after being reviewed and evaluated by external organizations such as the Spanish Coordinator of Development NGO or Lealtad Foundation, allowed these NGDOs to obtain a seal of transparency and (b) whether their level of transparency influences efficiency. To determine online transparency, web pages of seal-approved NGDOs were reviewed to assess the availability of relevant information. This paper uses data envelopment analysis to assess the efficiency using an input orientation. To determine the influence of online…

Finnish forest-based companies in transition to the circular bioeconomy : drivers, organizational resources and innovations

2020

Abstract Forest-based businesses are the center of the transition to the sustainable and competitive circular bioeconomy in Finland. This study explores the transition of Finnish FBS firms to new business models, with a focus on the organizational resources and capabilities needed for transition. It also identifies the important elements in the business environment and the role of innovations in this process. The study uses thematic interviews with managers from various FBS firms and companies from interfacing sectors, all of which have operations in Finland. Despite the differences between firms, the study finds many common drivers and resources that FBS companies highlight as significant …

A review of green supply chain management: From bibliometric analysis to a conceptual framework and future research directions

2018

Abstract This study reviews the green supply chain management (GSCM) literature and proposes a comprehensive view of the structural associations amongst the GSCM factors, viz. drivers, practice indicators and performance measures. The HistCite software was used to perform bibliometric citation meta-analysis on a sample of 1523 articles, obtained from the ISI Web of Science database. Influential journals, institutions, and trending articles in the GSCM research are revealed. Co-citation analysis coupled with content analysis of the 39 most cited articles identified six underlying research streams, namely (a) conceptual development and sense-making, (b) GSCM impact on performance, (c) integra…

Customer functional value creation through a sustainable entrepreneurial orientation approach

2019

This paper advances a theoretical model to empirically test firms’ behaviour regarding sustainable entrepreneurship, enhancing what researchers have recently proposed at a solely conceptual level; this entails sustainable entrepreneurship being understood as a discipline that reliably allows organizations to successfully respond to sustainable development and market requirements. The authors suggest an integrated approach of dynamic-capabilities, S-D logic and product-service system views, which highlights the managerial predisposition to adopt a strategic position that fosters value in use (instead of regular property value), according to the current school of thoughts engaged with innovat…

Organizational Ethical Virtues of Innovativeness

2017

This study participates in the discussion of the ethical culture of organizations by deepening the knowledge and understanding of the meaning of organizational ethical virtues in organizational innovativeness. Knowledge Management in R&D Teams at a Spanish Technical University: Measurement and Relations with Organizational Culture

2015

The aim of this study was to create and analyze the psychometric properties of an instrument (Knowledge Creation and Dissemination Survey, KCD) to evaluate the knowledge management on Spanish R&D teams based on the Leonard-Barton’s (1995) model of knowledge flows. For this purpose, three different tasks were carried out: firstly analyzing the psychometric properties of the instrument; secondly, analyzing the knowledge management levels of the R&D teams at a technical university as well as the relationship between organizational culture and knowledge management. This instrument was developed to cover the existing gap in the evaluation of knowledge management. The “Knowledge Creation and Diss…

Business owners, employees, and firm performance

2018

The novel Finnish Longitudinal OWNer-Employer-Employee (FLOWN) database was used to analyze how the characteristics of owners and employees relate to firm performance as determined by labor productivity, survival, and employment growth. Focusing on the role of the employment history, the results show that previous experience in a high-productivity firm strongly predicts high productivity and probability of survival for the entrepreneur’s new firm. This can be interpreted as evidence of knowledge spillovers through labor mobility of both the owners and the employees. The results also show that the owner’s high education in a technical field is positively related to firm performance. Differen…

Optimal hedging under biased energy futures markets

2020

Abstract Optimal futures hedging positions for those agents trying to maximize their expected utility will depend on their view about the evolution of the market and on how risk adverse they are. The most risk adverse agents will probably decide to full-cover their positions. But when a futures bias exists, hedgers with moderate or low degree of risk aversion can alter their strategy depending on the expected gains in futures markets. In our application to the UK natural gas market, we find a statistically significant time-varying negative futures bias that can be forecasted with confidence. As a result of this bias, most effective and best performing hedging strategies for moderate risk-av…

"Facta non verba" : an experiment on pledging and giving

2015

International audience; We design an experiment to investigate whether asking people to state how much they will donate to a charity (i.e., to pledge) increases their actual donation. Individuals’ endowment is either certain or a random variable. We study different types of pledges, namely, private, public and irrevocable, which differ in terms of the cost to the individual for not keeping the promise. We show that in absence of endowment uncertainty, private and public pledges are associated with lower donations as compared to donations in the no-pledge case: private pledges slightly reduce donations and public pledges reduce them more significantly. Donations increase with uncertainty (in…

Without the participation of workers, enterprise social media have limited value. This study develops a framework to assess what deters and drives employees' use of enterprise social media.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 753 employees of a global company using an online survey. The response rate was 24.5%. The authors used structural equation modeling to test the hypothesized framework.FindingsThe results show that various fears by workers may deter or motivate enterprise …
