This research focuses on teacher training in the Master's Degree in Secondary Educa- tion Teaching. The teaching guides of the specialisations of Biology and Geology and Physics and Che- mistry of the Master's Degree were analysed in order to know to what extent Education for Sustaina- bility (EfS) is present. Collaborative teams of teachers were arranged so as to promote the acquisition of competences in Sustainability among the training goals and to encourage resources and procedures for their effective achievement. Abstract In accordance with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), countries across the globe are striving to ensure equitable access to inclusive, quality and lifelong educational opportunities for all children, youth and adults by 2030. En este trabajo se analizan algunos de los obstáculos que están dificultando la implicación de diferentes sectores sociales en la adopción de las medidas necesarias para hacer frente a la actual situación de emergencia planetaria. En particular, analizamos la supuesta confrontación entre educación ambiental y educación para la sostenibilidad. Intentaremos mostrar que no existen razones para dicho antagonismo, sino que responde a malentendidos que es urgente deshacer, porque entorpecen la necesaria convergencia de esfuerzos para lograr una formación ciudadana que haga comprender la gravedad de la situación y prepare para participar en la toma de decisiones.
