A new child-centered approach to the organization of extra-curricular activities in Finnish schools

Extracurricular activities are currently included in Finnish school legislation, but their organization is fragmented. History: Club activities at school led by teachers have been arranged since 1947 on extra pay, but their amount and content have depended on available funding and often on teachers’ willingness to lead club activities. Schools have also had a possibility to use cultural or sport operators. However, system has preferred teacher-led club activities. W artykule zaprezentowane zostały zmiany w systemie kształcenia zawodowego obowiązujące w Polsce od roku szkolnego 2017/2018. Najważniejszą zmianą jest powołanie szkoły branżowej I stopnia, która zastąpiła Zasadniczą Szkołę Zawodową. Kolejną istotną zmianą jest zmodyfikowana klasyfikacja zawodów szkolnictwa zawodowego. Głównym celem zmian jest dostosowanie systemu kształcenia do potrzeb gospodarki, które realizowane będzie we współpracy z lokalnymi przedsiębiorcami.

The goal of this study is to examine how the relatively new phenomenon of multilingualism in the Finnish education system is presently managed in foreign language classes in the Finnish comprehensive school. The focus is on how bi- and multilingual learners with migration background can benefit from their previous individual language experiences, language learning experiences and language awareness processes, and how these function as a resource for their further (foreign) language learning process.
