Unconventional ionic liquid crystals in which the liquid crystallinity is enabled by halogen-bonded supramolecular anions [CnF2 n+1-I⋯I⋯I-CnF2 n+1]- are reported. The material system is unique in many ways, demonstrating for the first time 1) ionic, halogen-bonded liquid crystals, and 2) imidazolium-based ionic liquid crystals in which the occurrence of liquid crystallinity is not driven by the alkyl chains of the cation. Halogen effect on structure and 13C NMR chemical shift of 3,6-disubstituted-N-alkyl carbazoles

Structures of selected 3,6-dihalogeno-N-alkyl carbazole derivatives were calculated at the B3LYP/6-311++G(3df,2pd) level of theory, and their 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) isotropic shieldings were predicted using density functional theory (DFT). The model compounds contained 9H, N-methyl and N-ethyl derivatives. The relativistic effect of Br and I atoms on nuclear shieldings was modeled using the spin–orbit zeroth-order regular approximation (ZORA) method. For the first time changes in the 137Cs activity in game throughout Poland, including its most contaminated part known as the Opole Anomaly, were analyzed. Due to its long physical half-life, 137Cs continuously demonstrates high activity both in soil and biota. The species of game mammals, along with forest fruit and mushrooms, tend to accumulate this radionuclide, becoming one of the main sources of secondary contamination in people. In this study the 137Cs activity in roe deer, wild boar and red deer muscle tissue samples, within the years of 1986–2019, were studied. On Response Bias in the Face Congruency Effect for Internal and External Features

Some years ago Cheung et al. (2008) proposed the complete design (CD) for measuring the failure of selective attention in composite objects. Since the CD is a fully balanced design, analysis of response bias may reveal potential effects of the experimental manipulation, the stimulus material, and/or attributes of the observers. Here we used the CD to prove whether external features modulate perception of internal features with the context congruency paradigm (Nachson et al., 1995; Meinhardt-Injac et al., 2010) in a larger sample of N = 303 subjects. Solvent dependence of the νs(OD) bandshape in 2,6-dichlorophenol

Abstract The infrared bandshape of νs(OD) of 2,6-dichlorophenol is measured in a series of solvents of increasing polarity, and is quantitatively analysed. The bandshape is described in terms of band indices, moments, correlation functions and correlation times. A distinct solvent dependence of bandshape and relaxation parameters has been found. The changes of the νs(OD) bandshape with increasing solvent polarity are compared in detail with those obtained earlier for analogous solvents for νs(OH) of 2,6-dichlorophenol. The overall behaviour of the spectral and relaxation parameters is similar, but the changes are less distinct for the weaker OD ⋯ Cl bond.

Satellite Observations of the Contrasting Response of Trees and Grasses to Variations in Water Availability

Interannual variations in ecosystem primary productivity are dominated by water availability. Until recently, characterizing the photosynthetic response of different ecosystems to soil moisture anomalies was hampered by observational limitations. Here, we use a number of satellite-based proxies for productivity, including spectral indices, sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence, and data-driven estimates of gross primary production, to reevaluate the relationship between terrestrial photosynthesis and water.
