QCD effective charges from lattice data

We use recent lattice data on the gluon and ghost propagators, as well as the Kugo-Ojima function, in order to extract the non-perturbative behavior of two particular definitions of the QCD effective charge, one based on the pinch technique construction, and one obtained from the standard ghost-gluon vertex. The construction relies crucially on the definition of two dimensionful quantities, which are invariant under the renormalization group, and are built out of very particular combinations of the aforementioned Green's functions. Measurement of the Collins and Sivers asymmetries on transversely polarised protons

The Collins and Sivers asymmetries for charged hadrons produced in deeply inelastic scattering on transversely polarised protons have been extracted from the data collected in 2007 with the CERN SPS muon beam tuned at 160 GeV/c. At large values of the Bjorken x variable non-zero Collins asymmetries are observed both for positive and negative hadrons while the Sivers asymmetry for positive hadrons is slightly positive over almost all the measured x range. These results nicely support the present theoretical interpretation of these asymmetries, in terms of leading-twist quark distribution and fragmentation functions.

Collins and Sivers asymmetries for pions and kaons in muon-deuteron DIS

The measurements of the Collins and Sivers asymmetries of identified hadrons produced in deep-inelastic scattering of 160 GeV/c muons on a transversely polarised 6LiD target at COMPASS are presented. The results for charged pions and charged and neutral kaons correspond to all data available, which were collected from 2002 to 2004. For all final state particles both the Collins and Sivers asymmetries turn out to be small, compatible with zero within the statistical errors, in line with the previously published results for not identified charged hadrons, and with the expected cancellation between the u- and d-quark contributions.

Quenching of the 2-benzoylthiophene π,π* triplet, 3BT*, by phenol yields the corresponding ketyl and phenoxyl radicals. Reaction rates were measured in 10 solvents having a range of hydrogen-bond acceptor strengths (β2H values). There appear to be two mechanisms:  (i) a bimolecular reaction of 3BT* with “free” (i.e., not H-bonded) phenol in which the 3BT* accepts both a proton and an electron from the phenol, the rate decreasing as β2H increases; (ii) a trimolecular reaction of 3BT* with phenol that is H-bonded to a solvent molecule, PhO−H···S, in which the proton goes to the S and the electron to the 3BT*, the rate increasing as β2H increases.

Photoluminescence in gamma-irradiated alpha-quartz investigated by synchrotron radiation

Abstract We report an experimental investigation of the photoluminescence, under excitation by synchrotron radiation within the absorption band at 7.6 eV , induced in γ-irradiated α-quartz. Two emissions centered at 4.9 and 2.7 eV are observed at low temperature: the former decreases above 40 K , whereas the second band exhibits an initial slight increase and its quenching is effective above 100 K . Furthermore, the decay kinetics of both emissions occur in a time scale of nanoseconds: at T=17.5 K we measured a lifetime τ∼1.0 ns for the photoluminescence at 4.9 eV and τ∼3.6 ns for that at 2.7 eV . BACKGROUND: Lynch syndrome is associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer and with a broader spectrum of cancers, especially endometrial cancer. An analysis of the broadband solar irradiation, IT, and the erythemal UV irradiation, IUVER, has been performed using the measurements made from 2013 to 2015 at three sites located at altitudes over 1000 m a.s.l. In Northwestern Argentina (Salta, El Rosal, and Tolar Grande). Radiation responses of Yb/Er-doped phosphosilicate optical fibers: hardening mechanisms related to Ce-codoping

International audience; In this paper, we investigated the origins of the Ce positive influence on the radiation response of Yb/Er-doped phosphosilicate optical fibers. To this purpose, we carried out during γ-irradiations an online characterization on active optical fiber prototypes, made with different Ce concentrations and integrated in optical amplifiers. The hardening effect of Ce-codoping is highlighted, as well as some aspects related to the radiation response of the phosphosilicate host glass of the active optical fibers.
