Contributions to the electromagnetic form factors of the deuteron from isobar configurations
1974
A nonrelativistic calculation of the elastic electron deuteron scattering has been performed in which the effects arising from nucleon polarization have been systematically investigated. These effects have been taken into account by admixing isobar configurations into the deuteron wave function. Explicit expressions for the various contributions to the respective deuteron form factors have been given. At higher momentum transfers inclusion of the isobar configurations leads to a substantial increase in the form factors which qualitatively appears to account for at least some of the discrepancies between theory and experiment.
Muonic isotope shifts in the stable Ca nuclei
1978
Abstract Precise isotope shifts of the 2p-1s muonic transition energies for the stable Ca isotopes have been measured. Model-independent radius differences are derived from combined analysis of the present data and elastic electron scattering data. The precise new 48−40 Ca isotope shift disagrees with Hartree-Fock predictions.
Lepton-hadron correlations to O(αs2) in (2+1) jet production processes at hera
1992
Abstract We give a qualitative account of some of the technical features that go into the calculation of the one-loop improved O(αs2) (2+1) jet production rates in deep inelastic scattering which was completed only recently. We present some numerical results on (2+1) jet production with an emphasis on lepton-hadron correlation effects by exhibiting the contribution of the longitudinal structure function.
Measurement of the proton and deuteron structure functions, F2p and F2d, and of the ratio
1997
The muon-proton and muon-deuteron inclusive deep inelastic scattering cross sections were measured in the kinematic range 0.002 < x < 0.60 and 0.5 < Q(2) < 75 GeV2 at incident muon energies of 90, 120, 200 and 280 GeV. These results are based on the full data set collected by the New Muon Collaboration, including the data taken with a small angle trigger. The extracted values of the structure functions F-2(p) and F-2(d) are in good agreement with those from other experiments. The data cover a sufficient range of y to allow the determination of the ratio of the longitudinally to transversely polarised virtual photon absorption cross sections, R = sigma(L)/sigma(T), for 0.002 < x < 0.12. The …
Search for Electron Antineutrino Appearance at theΔm2∼1 eV2Scale
2009
The MiniBooNE Collaboration reports initial results from a search for nu{sub m}u->nu{sub e} oscillations. A signal-blind analysis was performed using a data sample corresponding to 3.39x10{sup 20} protons on target. The data are consistent with background prediction across the full range of neutrino energy reconstructed assuming quasielastic scattering, 200<E{sub n}u{sup QE}<3000 MeV: 144 electronlike events have been observed in this energy range, compared to an expectation of 139.2+-17.6 events. No significant excess of events has been observed, both at low energy, 200-475 MeV, and at high energy, 475-1250 MeV. The data are inconclusive with respect to antineutrino oscillations suggested …
Subnuclear Degrees of Freedom in Photoabsorption and Scattering
1986
One of the main fields of interest in medium energy nuclear physics is the study of subnuclear or non-nucleonic degrees of freedom (d.o.f.) in nuclei, like meson and isobar or quark-gluon degrees of freedom. It bridges the gap between classical or low energy nuclear physics as understood in terms of nucleon-only degrees of freedom and elementary particle or high energy physics. Hereby one may distinguish roughly two major objectives.
Deuteron Compton Scattering
1995
We have calculated deuteron Compton scattering below pion production threshold using different realistic NN potential models and explicit meson exchange current contributions. The gauge conditions for the current and two photon operators have been exploited extensively, so that our model fulfills the low energy theorems. Rescattering, meson exchange and nucleon substructure contributions are studied and compared with a previous calculation and recent experimental data.
Proton-Deuteron Elastic Scattering for E > 0
1999
We report on the first reliable numerical results for proton-deuteron elastic scattering observables for energies above the deuteron breakup thresh- old, for the Paris potential. The calculations have been performed within the screening and renormalisation approach. The theoretical results are compared with recent experimental data.
Incoherent diffractiveJ/Ψproduction in high-energy nuclear deep-inelastic scattering
2011
We compute cross sections for incoherent diffractive $J/\ensuremath{\Psi}$ production in lepton-nucleus deep-inelastic scattering (DIS). The cross section is proportional to $A$ in the dilute limit and to ${A}^{1/3}$ in the black disk limit, with a large nuclear suppression due to saturation effects. The $t$ dependence of the cross section, if it can be measured accurately enough, is sensitive to the impact parameter profile of the gluons in the nucleus and their fluctuations, a quantity that determines the initial conditions of a relativistic heavy-ion collision. The nuclear suppression in incoherent diffraction shows how the transverse spatial distribution of the gluons in the nucleus gra…
