Elastische Lichtstreuung an Polymeren

2008

Singularities in L^p-quasidisks

2021

We study planar domains with exemplary boundary singularities of the form of cusps. A natural question is how much elastic energy is needed to flatten these cusps; that is, to remove singularities. We give, in a connection of quasidisks, a sharp integrability condition for the distortion function to answer this question. peerReviewed

Solving the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation at next to leading order accuracy

2016

We solve the Balitsky-Kovchegov small-x evolution equation in coordinate space. We find that the solution to the equation is unstable when using an initial condition relevant for phenomenological applications at leading order. The problematic behavior is shown to be due to a large double logarithmic contribution. The same problem is found when the evolution of the “conformal dipole” is solved, even though the double logarithmic term is then absent from the evolution equation.

The spin-dependent structure function g1(x) of the deuteron from polarized deep-inelastic muon scattering

1997

We present a new measurement of the spin-dependent structure function $g_{1}^{\rm d}$ of the deuteron from deep inelastic scattering of 190 GeV polarized muons on polarized deuterons. The results are combined with our previous measurements of $g_{1}^{\rm d}$. A perturbative QCD evolution in next-to-leading order is used to compute $g_{1}^{\rm d}(x)$ at a constant $Q^{2}$. At $Q^{2} = 10$ GeV$^{2}$, we obtain a first moment $\Gamma_{1}^{\rm d} = \int_{0}^{1} g_{1}^{\rm d}{\rm d}x = 0.041 \pm 0.008$, a flavour-singlet axial charge of the nucleon $a_{0} = 0.30 \pm 0.08$, and an axial charge of the strange quark $a_{s} = -0.09 \pm 0.03$. Using our earlier determination of $\Gamma_{1}^{\rm p}$, …

dc transport in dissipative disordered one-dimensional systems

1995

We present a numerical study of the dc transport properties of dissipative disordered chains which are described by linear ensembles of interconnected scatterers. The elastic-scattering amplitudes are derived from an Anderson Hamiltonian with diagonal (site) disorder. Inelastic scattering is accounted for by connecting the sites of the Anderson chain to separate external electron reservoirs. The calculated wave-vector-dependent transmission probabilities are discussed for chains with different lengths and for different degrees of dissipation. Using the Landauer-B\"uttiker approach we obtain the dc resistance of the considered samples. Our results demonstrate the rather intricate competition…

Mechanically Based Nonlocal Euler-Bernoulli Beam Model

2014

AbstractThis paper presents a nonlocal Euler-Bernoulli beam model. It is assumed that the equilibrium of a beam segment is attained because of the classical local stress resultants, along with long-range volume forces and moments exchanged by the beam segment with all the nonadjacent beam segments. Elastic long-range volume forces/moments are considered, built as linearly depending on the product of the volumes of the interacting beam segments and on generalized measures of their relative motion, based on the pure deformation modes of the beam. Attenuation functions governing the space decay of the nonlocal effects are introduced. The motion equations are derived in an integro-differential …

Complete Electric Dipole Response and the Neutron Skin inPb208

2011

A benchmark experiment on Pb-208 shows that polarized proton inelastic scattering at very forward angles including 0 degrees is a powerful tool for high-resolution studies of electric dipole (E1) and spin magnetic dipole (M1) modes in nuclei over a broad excitation energy range to test up-to-date nuclear models. The extracted E1 polarizability leads to a neutron skin thickness r(skin) = 0.156(-0.021)(+0.025) fm in Pb-208 derived within a mean-field model [Phys. Rev. C 81, 051303 (2010)], thereby constraining the symmetry energy and its density dependence relevant to the description of neutron stars.

Unconstrained periodic boundary conditions for solid state elasticity

2004

We introduce a method to implement dynamics on an elastic lattice without imposing constraints via boundary or loading conditions. Using this method we are able to examine fracture processes in two-dimensional systems previously inaccessible for reliable computer simulations. We show the validity of the method by benchmarking and report a few preliminary results.

Dispersion relations applied to double-folding potentials from chiral effective field theory

2020

We present a determination of optical potentials using the double-folding method based on chiral effective field theory nucleon-nucleon interactions at next-to-next-to-leading order combined with dispersion relations to constrain the imaginary part. This approach is benchmarked on O16-O16 collisions, and extended to the C12-C12 and C12-O16 cases. Predictions derived from these potentials are compared to data for elastic scattering at energies up to 1000 MeV, as well as for fusion at low energy. Without adjusting parameters, excellent agreement with experiment is found. In addition, we study the sensitivity of the corresponding cross sections to the nucleon-nucleon interactions and nuclear d…

Isospin Character of Low-Lying Pygmy Dipole States inPb208via Inelastic Scattering ofO17Ions

2014

The properties of pygmy dipole states in Pb-208 were investigated using the Pb-208(O-17, O-17'gamma) reaction at 340 MeV and measuring the gamma decay with high resolution with the AGATA demonstrator array. Cross sections and angular distributions of the emitted gamma rays and of the scattered particles were measured. The results are compared with (gamma, gamma') and (p, p') data. The data analysis with the distorted wave Born approximation approach gives a good description of the elastic scattering and of the inelastic excitation of the 2(+) and 3(-) states. For the dipole transitions a form factor obtained by folding a microscopically calculated transition density was used for the first t…
