A Multivariate Non-Gaussian Stochastic Volatility Model with Leverage for Energy Markets

2009

Spot prices in energy markets exhibit special features like price spikes, mean-reversion inverse, stochastic volatility, inverse leverage effect and co-integration between the different commodities. In this paper a multivariate stochastic volatility model is introduced which captures these features. Second order structure and stationary issues of the model are analysed. Moreover the implied multivariate forward model is derived. Due to the flexibility of the model stylized facts of the forward curve as contango, backwardation and humps are explained. Moreover, a transformed-based method to price options on the forward is described, where fast and precise algorithms for price computations ca…

Increase in dissolution rate of sodium chlorate induced by elastic strain

2001

Recent experimental studies carried out on the kinetics of crystal growth in solution have revealed that mechanically induced elastic strain can have a strong influence on the crystal growth rate. We present experimental evidence to show that it can also strongly affect the dissolution rate. Sodium chlorate crystals held in an undersaturated sodium chlorate solution and uniaxially stressed in compression to values up to 15 MPa dissolved up to about 1.3 times faster than crystals free of stress. The increase in dissolution rate varies linearly with the stress.

US-Elastography for Breast Lesion Characterization: Prospective Comparison of US BIRADS, Strain Elastography and Shear wave Elastography

2020

To evaluate the diagnostic performance of strain elastography (SE) and 2 D shear wave elastography (SWE) and SE/SWE combination in comparison with conventional multiparametric ultrasound (US) with respect to improving BI-RADS classification results and differentiating benign and malignant breast lesions using a qualitative and quantitative assessment. In this prospective study, 130 histologically proven breast masses were evaluated with baseline US, color Doppler ultrasound (CDUS), SE and SWE (Toshiba Aplio 500 with a 7-15 MHz wide-band linear transducer). Each lesion was classified according to the BIRADS lexicon by evaluating the size, the B-mode and color Doppler features, the SE qualit…

A symmetric BEM approach to strain gradient elasticity for 2D static boundary-value problems

2014

The symmetric Galerkin Boundary Element Method is used to address a class of strain gradient elastic materials featured by a free energy function of the (classical) strain and of its (first) gradient. With respect to the classical elasticity, additional response variables intervene, such as the normal derivative of the displacements on the boundary, and the work-coniugate double tractions. The fundamental solutions - featuring a fourth order partial differential equations (PDEs) system - exhibit singularities which in 2D may be of the order 4 1/ r . New techniques are developed, which allow the elimination of most of the latter singularities. The present paper has to be intended as a resear…
