Engineering a morphogenetically active hydrogel for bioprinting of bioartificial tissue derived from human osteoblast-like SaOS-2 cells.

2014

Abstract Sodium alginate hydrogel, stabilized with gelatin, is a suitable, biologically inert matrix that can be used for encapsulating and 3D bioprinting of bone-related SaOS-2 cells. However, the cells, embedded in this matrix, remain in a non-proliferating state. Here we show that addition of an overlay onto the bioprinted alginate/gelatine/SaOS-2 cell scaffold, consisting of agarose and the calcium salt of polyphosphate [polyP·Ca 2+ -complex], resulted in a marked increase in cell proliferation . In the presence of 100 μ m polyP·Ca2+ -complex, the cells proliferate with a generation time of approximately 47–55 h. In addition, the hardness of the alginate/gelatin hydrogel substantially i…

Influence of low methoxyl pectin gel textures and in vitro release of rutin from calcium pectinate beads.

2013

This study described the preparation and characterization of low methoxyl pectin (LMP) gels and beads for controlled release applications. The rheological characterization of the various formulations was proposed. Then the mechanical and morphological characterizations of beads were determined. Finally, the controlled release studies taking rutin as a model drug was evaluated. The results showed that Young's modulus values of non-amidated LMP gels decrease when adding up to 15% sorbitol. Calcium pectinate beads loaded with rutin are about 600 μm, oblong shaped with dense matrix. Beads containing sodium bicarbonate showed about 80% lower rutin encapsulation efficiency by increasing the pH of…

Transverse momentum distributions for exclusive $\varrho^{0}$ muoproduction

1992

We have studied transverse momentum distributions for exclusive rho(0) muoproduction on protons and heavier nuclei at 2 < Q2 < 25 GeV2. The Q2 dependence of the slopes of the p(t)2 and t' distributions is discussed. The influence of the non-exclusive background is investigated. The p(t)2-slope for exclusive events is 4.3 +/- 0.6 +/- 0.7 GeV-2 at large Q2. The p(t)2 spectra are much softer than inclusive p(t)2 spectra of leading hadrons produced in deep inelastic scattering.

An explicit mechanical interpretation of Eringen non-local elasticity by means of fractional calculus

2009

If the attenuation function of strain is expressed as a power law, the formalism of fractional calculus may be used to handle Eringen non-local elastic model. Aim of the present paper is to provide a mechanical interpretation to this non-local fractional elastic model by showing that it is equivalent to a discrete, point-spring model. A one-dimensional geometry is considered; static, kinematic and constitutive equations as well as the proper boundary conditions are derived and discussed.

On the shear influence on the free vibration behavior of magneto-electro-elastic beam

2009

A magneto-electro-elastic Timoshenko beam model is presented and employed to study the effect of the shear strain on the free vibration behavior of the beam. Once the differential governing equation for Timoshenko magneto-electro-elastic beam is derived, the Euler-Bernoulli model is obtained by letting be zero some of the governing equation coefficients. Results for the Timoshenko and Euler- Bernoulli beam are presented in comparison with two-dimensional finite element computation.
