High-pressure structural, elastic, and thermodynamic properties of zircon-type HoPO4 and TmPO4

[EN] Zircon-type holmium phosphate (HoPO4) and thulium phosphate (TmPO4) have been studied by single-crystal x-ray diffraction and ab initio calculations. We report on the influence of pressure on the crystal structure, and on the elastic and thermodynamic properties. The equation of state for both compounds is accurately determined. We have also obtained information on the polyhedral compressibility which is used to explain the anisotropic axial compressibility and the bulk compressibility. Both compounds are ductile and more resistive to volume compression than to shear deformation at all pressures. Furthermore, the elastic anisotropy is enhanced upon compression. Ferroelastic Fingerprints in Methylammonium Lead Iodide Perovskite

Methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3) perovskite shows an outstanding performance in photovoltaic devices. However, certain material properties, especially the possible ferroic behavior, remain unclear. We observed distinct nanoscale periodic domains in the piezoresponse of MAPbI3(Cl) grains. The structure and the orientation of these striped domains indicate ferroelasticity as their origin. By correlating vertical and lateral piezoresponse force microscopy experiments performed at different sample orientations with X-ray diffraction, the preferred domain orientation is suggested to be the a1–a2-phase. Abstract Firm agility today is not a factor of competitiveness or success but a survival instrument on the market. Disruptive innovations and technological advancement, together with digitalization, change the role of firm agility. We show that the link between the national/industry level of digitalization and firm agility is statistically robust and essential. We study the link on data from 2009 to 2018 in fifteen EU advanced economies using dynamic panel data modeling. On the existence of weak solution to the coupled fluid-structure interaction problem for non-Newtonian shear-dependent fluid

We study the existence of weak solution for unsteady fluid-structure interaction problem for shear-thickening flow. The time dependent domain has at one part a flexible elastic wall. The evolution of fluid domain is governed by the generalized string equation with action of the fluid forces. The power-law viscosity model is applied to describe shear-dependent non-Newtonian fluids.
Vibrations of weakly coupled nanoparticles

The vibrations of a coupled pair of isotropic silver spheres are investigated and compared with the vibrations of the single isolated spheres. Situations of both strong coupling and also weak coupling are investigated using continuum elasticity and perturbation theory. The numerical calculation of the eigenmodes of such dimers is augmented with a symmetry analysis. This checks the convergence and applicability of the numerical method and shows how the eigenmodes of the dimer are constructed from those of the isolated spheres. Anisotropic exchange coupling in the Keggin derivative K8[Co2(D2O)(W11O39)] · n D2O

Abstract 20 g of the fully deuterated title compound have been prepared in polycrystalline form and investigated by inelastic neutron scattering using both thermal and cold neutrons. Magnetic dimer excitations were observed and the energy-splitting pattern resulting from the exchange coupling within the Co 2+ dimer was determined. The coupling is highly anisotropic with the parameter values J =−2.24 meV and η =0.33 based on the effective coupling Hamiltonian H =−2J[S 1z S 2z +η(S 1x S 2x +S 1y S 2y )] . The anisotropy results mainly from the single-ion anisotropy of the Co 2+ ion in the distorted octahedral coordination.

A Polynomial Quantum Query Lower Bound for the Set Equality Problem

The set equality problem is to tell whether two sets A and B are equal or disjoint under the promise that one of these is the case. This problem is related to the Graph Isomorphism problem. It was an open problem to find any ω(1) query lower bound when sets A and B are given by quantum oracles. We will show that any error-bounded quantum query algorithm that solves the set equality problem must evaluate oracles \(\Omega(\sqrt[5]{\frac{n}{\ln n}})\) times, where n=|A|=|B|.
A regular variational boundary model for free vibrations of magneto-electro-elastic structures

In this paper a regular variational boundary element formulation for dynamic analysis of two-dimensional magneto-electro-elastic domains is presented. The method is based on a hybrid variational principle expressed in terms of generalized magneto-electro-elastic variables. The domain variables are approximated by using a superposition of weighted regular fundamental solutions of the static magneto-electro-elastic problem, whereas the boundary variables are expressed in terms of nodal values. Recently, systematic studies of mappings of finite distortion have emerged as a key area in geometric function theory. The connection with deformations of elastic bodies and regularity of energy minimizers in the theory of nonlinear elasticity is perhaps a primary motivation for such studies, but there are many other applications as well, particularly in holomorphic dynamics and also in the study of first order degenerate elliptic systems, for instance the Beltrami systems we consider here.
