Victor Schoelcher, un républicain acharné
1998
Victor Schoelcher, républicain et libre penseur
2002
Computer-mediated communication and time pressure induce higher cardiovascular responses in the preparatory and execution phases of cooperative tasks
2010
2010
On March 4, 1848, thanks to the decisive impetus given by Victor Schoelcher, the principle of the abolition of slavery was proclaimed by decree and a « Commission for the preparation of an act of immediate emancipation in all the colonies of the Republic » was established.
1998
The colonial policy of the second Republic demonstrate a moderate assimilationist policy. The ideas of Victor Schoelcher are influential, but not entirely adopted. Indeed, Schoelcher fought for the application of common law to the colonies. Although the emancipated slaves of the four old colonies are under the rule of juridical assimilation, the specific status of the natives remains unchanged. The constitution of 1848 institutes a représentation of the colonies before the National Assembly, proclaims the unity and indivisibility of the Republic and the sovereignty of France over its colonies. However, it adopts the principle of specific legislation for the later.
2000
Gregoire's last will and testament called for the organization of six awards to be granted on the basis of written competitions on subjects that included reflections upon despotism, slavery, liberties, and equality, the themes of the struggles that had engaged Gregoire. Although the quality of the essays that resulted were not up to the level that the abbot had no doubt hoped for, the competition relative to the means of fighting the prejudice of color was the occasion to open a large debate and to launch the French abolitionist movement.
