1/f noise in streaming electrification

The paper presents the measurement results of the noise generated by static electricity. The tests were performed in the spinning-disk system. Insulation liquid (transformer oil) was used for electrostatic charge generation. The element measured was the current flowing to the disk surface. A stochastic term is present in the current. Existance of this term is due to the complex chemical constitution of the oil. A relaxation of the polar molecules has inertial character. The spreading of a large amount of the relaxation phenomena can lead to forming a compounded spectrum close in shape to 1/f noise. Potential and energy of oblate spheroidal charge distributions

Abstract The Poisson equation for a large class of charge distributions contained within oblate spheroids in solved and their energies are obtained. In many cases, the potential and the energy can be found by comparison with the solutions of the Poisson equation for prolate spheroidal charge distributions obtained in preceding works. The limits of validity of this comparison procedure are established. For the simplest cases the electrostatic energy is computed and, after suitable normalization, displayed graphically.

Recent advances in the development of high-resolution 3D cadmium-zinc-telluride drift strip detectors.

In the last two decades, great efforts have been made in the development of 3D cadmium–zinc–telluride (CZT) detectors operating at room temperature for gamma-ray spectroscopic imaging. This work presents the spectroscopic performance of new high-resolution CZT drift strip detectors, recently developed at IMEM-CNR of Parma (Italy) in collaboration with due2lab (Italy). The detectors (19.4 mm × 19.4 mm × 6 mm) are organized into collecting anode strips (pitch of 1.6 mm) and drift strips (pitch of 0.4 mm) which are negatively biased to optimize electron charge collection. A test of electric charge conservation with Borexino

2015

Borexino is a liquid scintillation detector located deep underground at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS, Italy). Thanks to the unmatched radio-purity of the scintillator, and to the well understood detector response at low energy, a new limit on the stability of the electron for decay into a neutrino and a single mono-energetic photon was obtained. This new bound, tau > 6.6 10**28 yr at 90 % C.L., is two orders of magnitude better than the previous limit.

Results are presented of searches for the production of supersymmetric particles decaying into final states with missing transverse momentum and exactly two isolated leptons in √ s = 7 TeV proton–proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Search strategies requiring lepton pairs with identical-sign or opposite-sign electric charges are described. In a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35 pb−1 collected with the ATLAS detector, no significant excesses are observed. Based on specific benchmark models, limits are placed on the squark mass between 450 and 690 GeV for squarks approximately degenerate in mass with gluinos, depending on the supersymmetric mass hierarchy…

Search for anomalous production of prompt like-sign muon pairs and constraints on physics beyond the Standard Model with the ATLAS detector

An inclusive search for anomalous production of two prompt, isolated muons with the same electric charge is presented. The search is performed in a data sample corresponding to 1.6  fb−1 of integrated luminosity collected in 2011 at √s=7  TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Muon pairs are selected by requiring two isolated muons of the same electric charge with pT>20  GeV and |η|<2.5. Minimal requirements are placed on the rest of the event activity. The distribution of the invariant mass of the muon pair m(μμ) is found to agree well with the background expectation. The effective neutrino charge radius

It is shown that at one-loop order a neutrino charge radius (NCR) may be defined, which is ultraviolet finite, does not depend on the gauge-fixing parameter, nor on properties of the target other than its electric charge. This is accomplished through the systematic decomposition of physical amplitudes into effective self-energies, vertices, and boxes, which separately respect electroweak gauge invariance. In this way the NCR stems solely from an effective proper photon-neutrino one-loop vertex, which satisfies a naive, QED-like Ward identity. Self-dressing and radiation reaction in classical electrodynamics

A canonical approach to self-dressing in classical electrodynamics is presented. A slowly moving, rigid charge distribution is assumed to be completely deprived of the transverse electric E⊥ at an initial time t1' and the development of this component of the field is studied for t > t1' by solving the coupled charge-field Hamilton equations of motion. The theory is specialized to charge distributions of spherical symmetry, and in particular the point-charge, the spherical shell of charge and the spherical volume of charge are considered. Precise manipulation of individual charge carriers in nanoelectronic circuits underpins practical applications of their most basic quantum property --- the universality and invariance of the elementary charge.
