Investigation of inductive coupling solutions for E-bike wireless charging

Wireless charging of electric vehicle batteries is a major topic for academic and industrial research. The wireless charging is based on the inductive coupling between a primary coil, connected to the grid, and a secondary coil, connected to the vehicle battery. Wireless battery charging provides benefits in terms of comfort for the drivers, who should just park to start the charging operation, without needing to plug in the vehicle. Multi Architecture Optimization of a Hybrid Electric Vehicle Using Object-Oriented Programming

This article presents an energetic macroscopic representation multi-architecture model for hybrid vehicles using object-oriented programming. This approach is successfully used to evaluate the power performance and fuel consumption of different vehicles on different driving cycles. An optimization of power source sizing (ICE, EM and Battery) and system control, based on simulation results, is carried. Different architectures are compared for given cycles and optimization of hybrid architecture will also be possible.

Efficient contactless power transfer system for EVs

Based on the inductive power transfer (IPT), the contactless approach allows safe and comfortable operations of battery charging for Electric Vehicles (EVs). In this paper, a contactless system particularly suitable for E-bike battery charging is proposed. A practical realization of the system has been carried out, aiming at the system evaluation in terms of working and efficiency. Through a phase shift modulation, a power regulation has been implemented. The target power level is 100 W.

Battery technologies for electric vehicles

This chapter gives a brief overview of the following types of vehicles: battery electric vehicle (BEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). It then provides a comprehensive summary of the electrochemical energy storage including Ni-MH battery, Li-ion battery, and advanced rechargeable battery. Battery chemistry is explained in a detailed manner including an abbreviated modelling approach. Also, the issues of battery-charging method, management, and monitoring are addressed. The chapter concludes with a discussion on battery cell voltage balancing and temperature monitoring in addition to the battery state-of-charge (SOC) estimation.

Modeling and experimenting the thermal behavior of a lithium-ion battery on a electric vehicle

This paper deals with an electro thermal model of a lithium-ion battery for hybrid and electric vehicles. It was developed to study the behavior of lithium-ion battery key parameters. The thermal model, under Matlab/Simulink, is capable of predicting the voltage, current, State of Charge and temperature of the battery. Thereafter, the thermal behavior of the battery was studied under different operating conditions. The results of the simulation were compared with experimental measurements carried out by thermocouples and thermal camera on a test bench. Finally, the model has been validated on the NOAO electric vehicle.

Tracing battery usage for second life market with a blockchain-based framework

This work describes the design of a platform based on a permissioned blockchain for sharing relevant information among the actors involved in grid service provision programs.
