Current-Based Measurement Technique for High Sensitivity Detection of Resistive Bridges With External Balancing Through Control Voltages
2017
We present a novel approach based on differential measurements of dc currents with very high sensitivity suitable for the detection of very small variations of resistors in Wheatstone full-bridge configurations. External control voltages allow for the compensation of the bridge unbalancing avoiding the need of changing its elements so making the solution suitable for integrated sensor systems. The proposed current-based measurement technique has been implemented through three different circuits, in transimpedance configuration and without the use of any further amplification stage, employing only two active blocks that allow for a very high integration level. The main characteristics of the…
Stretched fibre based dispersion compensating module for ultra high-speed telecommunication systems
2008
International audience; In this work, the potential efficiency of a low-loss, tunable second-and third-order dispersion compensating module based on a stretched optical fibre for ultra high-speed telecommunication systems is analysed. Experimental results at a repetition rate of 640 GHz show that precise dispersion compensation could be achieved in the range of +0.038 ps/nm by means of an 11.3 cm maximum stretching of a 48 m long dispersion compensating.
Design of the stabilization control system of a high-speed craft
2016
In this paper, the main causes of technical malfunction of a hydrofoil was analyzed. In particular, a preliminary analysis evaluates the economic impact for the navigation company of the periodical maintenance related to the keeping of the vessel in dry dock. The study demonstrated that the main critical points are focused on the fragility of the stabilization control system. The increasing of operating costs has motivated the realization of a study aimed at redesigning the stabilization system. The continuing failure of the stabilization system (usually in water-immersed) severely limits the use of the high-speed craft. The proposed design solution considers the positioning of the control …
BEGIN: Big Data Enabled Energy-Efficient Vehicular Edge Computing
2018
Vehicular edge computing is essential to support future emerging multimedia-rich and delay-sensitive applications in vehicular networks. However, the massive deployment of edge computing infrastructures induces new problems including energy consumption and carbon pollution. This motivates us to develop BEGIN (Big data enabled EnerGy-efficient vehIcular edge computiNg), a programmable, scalable, and flexible framework for integrating big data analytics with vehicular edge computing. In this article, we first present a comprehensive literature review. Then the overall design principle of BEGIN is described with an emphasis on computing domain and data domain convergence. In the next section, …
Implementation and application of the actuator line model by OpenFOAM for a vertical axis wind turbine
2017
University of Stavanger has started The Smart Sustainable Campus & Energy Lab project, to gain knowledge and facilitate project based education in the field of renewable and sustainable energy and increase the research effort in the same area. This project includes the future installation of a vertical axis wind turbine on the campus roof. A newly developed Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model by OpenFOAM have been implemented to study the wind behavior over the building and the turbine performance. The online available wind turbine model case from Bachant, Goude and Wosnik from 2016 is used as the starting point. This is a Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) case set up th…
CIPRNG: A VLSI Family of Chaotic Iterations Post-Processings for $\mathbb {F}_{2}$ -Linear Pseudorandom Number Generation Based on Zynq MPSoC
2018
Hardware pseudorandom number generators are continuously improved to satisfy both physical and ubiquitous computing security system challenges. The main contribution of this paper is to propose two post-processing modules in hardware, to improve the randomness of linear PRNGs while succeeding in passing the TestU01 statistical battery of tests. They are based on chaotic iterations and are denoted by CIPRNG-MC and CIPRNG-XOR. They have various interesting properties, encompassing the ability to improve the statistical profile of the generators on which they iterate. Such post-processing have been implemented on FPGA and ASIC without inferring any blocs (RAM or DSP). A comparison in terms of …
Wireless Power Transfer System Design for E-bikes Application
2019
The present work presents an analysis of Inductive Coupled Power Transfer (ICPT) Systems behaviour applied to electrical bikes. In particular, the study has focused on the design of the coupled coils of this system. In the first part of the work, the theoretical aspects of the wireless power system are handled. In the second part of the work, the inductive features of the coupled windings are analyzed. In order to perform this process, the Ansys Maxwell software has been used, performing 3D simulations. To conclude, the results of the simulations are compared.
A Permanent Magnet Linear Generator for the Enhancement of the Reliability of a Wave Energy Conversion System
2019
In this paper, a linear generator for a highly reliable Wave Energy Conversion system is designed and tested. In order to store energy, the system is able to produce hydrogen The Wave Energy Conversion System consists of an electrical linear generator, a power conversion system and a sea-water electrolyzer. A small scale prototype of the system has been designed and built. The design is oriented to the enhancement of the system robustness and reliability and a Failure Mode and Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) has been used. In order to guarantee an easy extension of the power capability of the marine plant, a modular architecture of the system has been adopted. The design strategy i…
WiSHFUL : enabling coordination solutions for managing heterogeneous wireless networks
2017
The paradigm shift toward the Internet of Things results in an increasing number of wireless applications being deployed. Since many of these applications contend for the same physical medium (i.e., the unlicensed ISM bands), there is a clear need for beyond-state-of-the-art solutions that coordinate medium access across heterogeneous wireless networks. Such solutions demand fine-grained control of each device and technology, which currently requires a substantial amount of effort given that the control APIs are different on each hardware platform, technology, and operating system. In this article an open architecture is proposed that overcomes this hurdle by providing unified programming i…
Simultaneous ranging and self-positioning in unsynchronized wireless acoustic sensor networks
2016
Automatic ranging and self-positioning is a very desirable property in wireless acoustic sensor networks, where nodes have at least one microphone and one loudspeaker. However, due to environmental noise, interference, and multipath effects, audio-based ranging is a challenging task. This paper presents a fast ranging and positioning strategy that makes use of the correlation properties of pseudonoise sequences for estimating simultaneously relative time-of-arrivals from multiple acoustic nodes. To this end, a proper test signal design adapted to the acoustic node transducers is proposed. In addition, a novel self-interference reduction method and a peak matching algorithm are introduced, a…
