EKF-based estimation and control of electric drivetrain in offshore pipe racking machine

A typical challenge for electric drivetrains is to reduce the number of sensors required for control action or system monitoring. This is particularly important for electric motors operating in offshore conditions, since they work in hostile environment which often damages data acquisition systems. Therefore, this paper deals with verification and validation of the extended Kalman filter (EKF) for sensorless indirect field-oriented control (IFOC) of an induction motor operating in offshore conditions. Autoencoders and Recurrent Neural Networks Based Algorithm for Prognosis of Bearing Life

Bearings are one of the most critical components in electric motors, gearboxes and wind turbines. Therefore, bearing fault detection and prognosis of remaining useful life are important to prevent productivity losses. In this study, a novel method is proposed for prognosis of bearing life using an autoencoder and recurrent neural networks-based prediction algorithm. Promising results have been obtained from the experimental data. A monotonic upward trend of the produced health indicator is obtained for all test cases, being one of critical indicators of a proper prognosis. The remaining useful life estimation is moderately accurate under a limited data.

Autoencoders and Data Fusion Based Hybrid Health Indicator for Detecting Bearing and Stator Winding Faults in Electric Motors

The main objective of a condition monitoring programs is to track the health status of critical components of a machine. In this paper, a hybrid health indicator is proposed to monitor the health status of bearings and stator winding of a motor. The proposed method is based on a feature learning from deep autoencoders and data fusion. The features can be learned by autoencoders using individual current and vibration signals, and then learning features are fused to make final health indicators. Performance Comparison of Electrical Motors equipped with slightly Asymmetrical Windings

This paper presents a comparison between the performances of electrical machines equipped with slightly asymmetrical windings. More in detail, by modifying the stator geometry of an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine equipped with a symmetrical winding configuration, other two slightly asymmetrical winding topologies are obtained. Switching Capacitors Transformerless Bidirectional DC-DC Converter

This paper presents an innovative converter topology that better connects the needs of the battery pack and the electric motor towards the validation of an eco-sustainable electric mobility model. More in particular, the components of the proposed converter change their connection state during both the charging and discharging time of the battery, leading to a higher performance with respect to traditional step-down or step-up converters. The simulations carried out by means of the PLECS® environment have demonstrated the early feasibility of the proposed system.

A Two-Stage Fault Detection and Classification Scheme for Electrical Pitch Drives in Offshore Wind Farms Using Support Vector Machine

Pitch systems are one of the components with the most frequent failure in wind turbines. This paper presents a two-stage fault detection and classification scheme for electric motor drives in wind turbine pitch systems. The presented approach is suitable for application in offshore wind farms with electric pitch systems driven by induction motors as well as permanent magnet synchronous motors. Dynamical Compensation of the Load Torque in a High-Performance Electrical Drive with an Induction Motor

This paper describes a new method for dynamical estimation of load disturbance in induction motors by using Nonlinear Unknown Input Observers (NUIO). This estimation is then used to compensate dynamically the load torque in a Field Oriented Control (FOC) induction motor drive to increase its load-rejection capability. The method has been verified both in simulation and experimentally on a experimental rig.

Speed control of tubular linear induction motors for industrial automated applications

The Tubular Linear Induction Machine (TLIM) has acquired great relevance over the past years for industrial automated applications. For this purpose, the complete modeling, simulation and determination of the parameters of a TLIM is presented in this paper. In addition, the TLIM speed control for this specific application is here described. In order to verify the performances of the proposed system, a test bench has been setup and good agreement is shown from the comparison between measured and simulated results.

In 30 h, students with different engineering background receive a basic but solid formation by implementing a complete microelectronics design flow, following current industry standards.
