Behavior Modification of Nanostructured PbO₂ Electrodes in Lead Acid Batteries Changing Electrolyte Concentration and Separator

2019

Currently, lead acid battery is extensively investigated owing to its prevalent use as a starting-lighting and ignition device. An essential role for electrochemical reactions is played by the surface area available for conversion reactions and a possible approach is the use of nanostructured electrodes. In this work, lead dioxide nanostructured electrodes were tested in order to investigate the dependence of the charge and discharge behaviour on some parameters such as electrolyte concentration, and a new type of thin separator. In this last case, it is possible to reduce the size of the cell by using a very thin separator comparable to the nanostructured electrode thickness. Besides, a lo…

Determination of the electroactive area of graphite+polyethylene composite electrodes. Uncompensated resistance effects and convolution analysis of c…

1998

In this work, it is shown how the convolution analysis of chronoamperograms permits the observation of the uncompensated resistance and the natural convection effects on the electrochemical response of potassium ferrocyanide. The uncompensated resistance causes the current intensity to follow the Cottrell equation only after a certain critical time. The convolution of chronoamperograms worked out at different integration times shows a maximum when this time is long enough. The classical diffusion equations cannot explain this phenomenon themselves. The development of this maximum associated with the natural convection is discussed. If both these factors, the ohmic drop and the natural conve…

EFFECT OF MICROENCAPSULATION ON OXYGEN DISTRIBUTION IN ISLETS ORGANS

1994

In islet transplantation, limitation of oxygen supply may restrict graft function, particularly when encapsulated tissue is used. Therefore, oxygen tensions (PO2) in isolated islet organs (Brockmann bodies) of Osphronemus gorami were measured. In a thermostatically (37 degrees C) controlled measuring chamber, PO2 values were recorded at subsequent microelectrode positions on a radial track toward the center of the organ. In 2 independent groups, we studied the effect of fluid convection (n = 12) and microencapsulation (n = 12). In both groups, sigmoidal PO2 profiles were found, which permit differentiation in an oxygen-depleted zone surrounding the surface, a steep decline inside the tissue…

A method for rapid implantation of multielectrode systems.

1991

The implantation of several chronic electrodes at the same time was needed for the studies in which both evoked slow potential and multiple unit neural activity of different brain sites were recorded during classical conditioning in freely moving cats. The recording electrodes were made of 25-75 microns insulated stainless steel or nichrome wires which were inserted into a thin hypodermic needle of a fixed, calibrated length. The fast implantation system described here is based on the use of a stereotaxic frame as a stand for a drill and as a support for an electrode holder with which the electrodes were implanted through precision holes drilled directly according to the coordinates of the …

Highly selective detection of Epinephrine at oxidized Single-Wall Carbon Nanohorns modified Screen Printed Electrodes (SPEs)

2014

Oxidized Single-Wall Carbon Nanohorns (o-SWCNHs) were used, for the first time, to assemble chemically modified Screen Printed Electrodes (SPEs) selective towards the electrochemical detection of Epinephrine (Ep), in the presence of Serotonine-5-HT (S-5HT), Dopamine (DA), Nor-Epineprhine (Nor-Ep), Ascorbic Acid (AA), Acetaminophen (Ac) and Uric Acid (UA). The Ep neurotransmitter was detected by using Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV), in a wide linear range of concentration (2-2500 μM) with high sensitivity (55.77 A M(-1) cm(-2)), very good reproducibility (RSD% ranging from 2 to 10 for different SPEs), short response time for each measurement (only 2s) and low detection of limit (LOD=0.…

Ni alloy nanowires for alkaline electrolysers

In recent years, the interest towards green hydrogen has drastically increased due to the global decarbonization process. Green hydrogen is obtained by water electrolysis using only electricity from renewable sources. It is considered one of the best storage systems in terms of environmental sustainability but not in economic ones. Nowadays, the research is focused on improving the Alkaline Water Electrolysis (AE) to reduce the cost of production. An approach to improve AE performance is based on nanostructured electrodes characterized by high electrocatalytic activity due to the very high surface area. In fact, the development of more efficient electrolysers with low-cost electrode-electro…
