Source localization of event-related potentials to pitch change mapped onto age-appropriate MRIs at 6 months-of-age

2010

Auditory event-related potentials (ERPs) have been used to understand how the brain processes auditory input, and to track developmental change in sensory systems. Localizing ERP generators can provide invaluable insights into how and where auditory information is processed. However, age-appropriate infant brain templates have not been available to aid such developmental mapping. In this study, auditory change detection responses of brain ERPs were examined in 6-month-old infants using discrete and distributed source localization methods mapped onto age-appropriate magnetic resonance images. Infants received a passive oddball paradigm using fast-rate non-linguistic auditory stimuli (tone do…

Large Conductance Switching in a Single-Molecule Device through Room Temperature Spin-Dependent Transport

2016

Controlling the spin of electrons in nanoscale electronic devices is one of the most promising topics aiming at developing devices with rapid and high density information storage capabilities. The interface magnetism or spinterface resulting from the interaction between a magnetic molecule and a metal surface, or vice versa, has become a key ingredient in creating nanoscale molecular devices with novel functionalities. Here, we present a single-molecule wire that displays large (>10000%) conductance switching by controlling the spin-dependent transport under ambient conditions (room temperature in a liquid cell). The molecular wire is built by trapping individual spin crossover Fe-II comple…

Sub-threshold signal processing in arrays of non-identical nanostructures

2011

Weak input signals are routinely processed by molecular-scaled biological networks composed of non-identical units that operate correctly in a noisy environment. In order to show that artificial nanostructures can mimic this behavior, we explore theoretically noise-assisted signal processing in arrays of metallic nanoparticles functionalized with organic ligands that act as tunneling junctions connecting the nanoparticle to the external electrodes. The electronic transfer through the nanostructure is based on the Coulomb blockade and tunneling effects. Because of the fabrication uncertainties, these nanostructures are expected to show a high variability in their physical characteristics and…

Interaction of the Dioxouranium(VI) Ion with Aspartate and Glutamate in NaCl(aq) at Different Ionic Strengths

2005

The formation of complexes species of the dioxouranium(VI) ion with aspartic and glutamic acids was studied in the pH range of 3 to 6 at 25 °C by potentiometric measurements (H+−glass electrode). R...

Electronic structure and energy decomposition analyses as a tool to interpret the redox potential ranking of naphtho-, biphenyl- and biphenylenequino…

2016

By calling on modelling approaches we have performed a comparative study on the redox properties of various naphtho-, biphenyl- and biphenylene-quinone isomers. These different compounds exhibit as a whole a redox potential range between 2.09 and 2.90 V vs. Li+/Li. A specific methodology was used to decrypt the interplay among isomerism, aromaticity and antiaromaticity modifications and the stabilization/destabilization effects due to other molecular components on this key electrochemical feature for electrode materials of batteries. In particular, energy decomposition analysis, within the Quantum Theory of Atoms in Molecules, along with the electron and electron spin population changes upo…

A High-Performance Asymmetric Supercapacitor Based on Tungsten Oxide Nanoplates and Highly Reduced Graphene Oxide Electrodes.

2021

Tungsten oxide/graphene hybrid materials are attractive semiconductors for energy-related applications. Herein, we report an asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC, HRG//m-WO3 ASC), fabricated from monoclinic tungsten oxide (m-WO3 ) nanoplates as a negative electrode and highly reduced graphene oxide (HRG) as a positive electrode material. The supercapacitor performance of the prepared electrodes was evaluated in an aqueous electrolyte (1 m H2 SO4 ) using three- and two-electrode systems. The HRG//m-WO3 ASC exhibits a maximum specific capacitance of 389 F g-1 at a current density of 0.5 A g-1 , with an associated high energy density of 93 Wh kg-1 at a power density of 500 W kg-1 in a wide 1.6 V ope…

Highly Porous Wood Based Carbon Materials for Supercapacitors

2015

Wood based activated carbons synthesized by two-stage thermocatalytical synthesis with NaOH activator were studied and used as supercapacitor electrodes (sulphuric acid electrolyte). Porous structure and electrochemical properties of carbons vs synthesis conditions were assessed. It was found that there are correlations between carbons synthesis variables, their porosity and supercapacitors functional characteristics. At the temperature 600 o C and activator/precursor ratio 1.25 porosity decreased, however energy capacitance of supercapacitor increased calculating on elementary cell mass.

Superconducting tunneling spectroscopy on epitaxial UPd2Al3 thin films

1997

Abstract Results of superconducting tunneling spectroscopy experiments performed on two different types of thin film planar junctions of the heavy-fermion compound UPd 2 Al 3 are presented. Cross-type junctions consist of the heavy-fermion base electrode, an insulating layer of native surface oxide and a metal counter electrode (Au or Ag). The contact resistance was only weakly temperature dependent down to the superconducting transition. In the superconducting regime a strongly reduced zero bias conductivity indicated the junction being of the superconductor-insulator-normal metal type. The observed tunneling density of states is clearly due to the superconducting energy gap of UPd 2 Al 3 …
