Morphological patterns of circumpulpal dentin affected by radiation-related caries

Background The aim of this work was to evaluate the microscopic characteristics through polarized light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and the mineral content of circumpulpal dentin of irradiated (IT) and non-irradiated teeth (NIT), with deep caries that reached the root canal. Material and methods A total of 25 IT were analyzed macroscopically, and radiographed. 5 NIT were used as controls. Two 100-μm-thick sections, per specimen, were evaluated in a polarized light microscopy and a scanning electron microscope. Demographics and clinical data were collected. Atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge formation of organosilicon thin films loaded with zinc 5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin (Zn(TPP)) was investigated for different deposition conditions. UV–visible spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy revealed the effects of the metalloporpyhrins injection parameters and the plasma polymerisation conditions can affect the dispersion of the metalloporphyrins and the morphology of the coatings. The stability of the embedded Zn(TPP) molecules was investigated by orbitrap mass spectrometry.

To help understand the organoleptic qualities of steam cooked foods, the kinetics of aroma release during cooking in a potato starch based model matrix was studied. Behaviour of components having a major impact in potato flavour were studied using solid phase micro extraction-gas chromatography (SPME-GC). Evolution of microstructure of potato starch model-matrix during steam cooking process was analyzed using environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM). Necking behavior of low-density polyethylene-isotactic polypropylene blends: A morphological investigation

The tensile behavior of low-density polyethylene-isotactic polypropylene blends was investigated at room temperature. Neck formation and propagation along the whole length of the samples were observed for the whole range of composition. This behavior, which is not indicated by most data available in the literature, was examined in relation to sample morphology by scanning electron microscopy. The results of this investigation indicated some differences between the morphology of these materials and the morphology of blends which do not undergo necking propagation.

Abstract Polymerizable Langmuir—Blodgett (LB) multilayers of several diacetylenic amphiphiles were investigated on gas-permeable, polymeric supports. Macroscopically homogeneous multilayer films of hexacosa-10,12-diynoic acid and pentacosa-10,12-diyne phosphonate could be built up on polypropylene and polytetrafluoroethylene materials. As shown by scanning electron microscopy, the microscopic homogeneity of the built-up multilayers was mainly controlled by the surface structure of the support material, whereas the chemical nature of the support and photopolymerization of the layers did not affect the high order of the films. Abstract Electrically insulating flow channel inserts (FCI) may be needed in liquid-based breeding blanket concepts to electrically decouple the metal flow from the strong magnetic field in a future fusion reactor. Although the magnetohydrodynamic simulation demonstrates a reduction of the pressure drop when a sandwich-like steel-alumina-steel FCI is employed, the tritium production efficiency in the breeding zone of a breeding blanket is limited to 550 °C due to the steel corrosion.
