The Synergetic Interplay of Weak Interactions in the Ion-Pair Recognition of Quaternary and Diquaternary Ammonium Salts by Halogenated Resorcinarenes

2013

The influence of halogens on the noncovalent interactions of different upper-rim-substituted hexylresorcinarenes with quaternary and diquaternary ammonium iodide salts was investigated in the gas phase by electrospray ionization Fourier-transform ion-cyclotron-resonance (ESI-FTICR) mass spectrometry and in solution by 1H NMR titration studies. The electronic nature of the substituents on the upper rim of the resorcinarene was directly reflected in the order of binding strengths of the hosts towards quaternary and diquaternary ammonium cations in the gas phase. In solution, the opposite trend was observed, with generally higher binding constants for the diquaternary over the quaternary salts…

Occurrence of glycine in the core oligosaccharides of Hafnia alvei lipopolysaccharides--identification of disubstituted glycoform.

2015

Endotoxins (lipopolysaccharides, LPS) are the main surface antigens and virulence factors of Gram-negative bacteria involved for example in the development of nosocomial infections and sepsis. They consist of three main regions: O-specific polysaccharide, core oligosaccharide, and lipid A. Bacteria modify LPS structure to escape the immune defence, but also to adapt to environmental conditions. LPS's structures are highly diversified in the O-specific polysaccharide region to evade bactericidal factors of immune system, but retain some common epitopes that are potential candidates for therapeutic strategies against bacterial infections. Common occurrence of glycine within the structure of L…

Electrospray ion mobility mass spectrometry of positively charged sodium bis[2-ethythexyl)sulfosuccinate aggregates.

2014

Collision cross-sections (CCS) of positively singly and multiply charged aggregates of the surfactant sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOTNa) in the gas phase have been measured by quadrupole ion mobility time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Calibration of the observed drift times to the CCS of the AOTNa non-covalent aggregates was achieved by collecting, under the same experimental conditions, the drift times of a range of singly and multiply charged polyalanine peptides whose CCS had been obtained by conventional ion mobility spectrometry. Together with an obvious increase of the aggregate cross-section with the aggregation number, it was found that the aggregate cross-section increa…

Rapid characterization of alkylpolyphosphonates by CZE with indirect photometric and mass spectrometric detection.

2006

Methods for the rapid characterization of industrial alkylpolyphosphonates (APPs) by infusion MS and CZE with indirect photometric (IPD) and MS detection are described. Technical-grade APPs, including alkylaminepolyphosphonates with 3-5 phosphonate groups and different hydrocarbon skeletons, hydroxyethyl-amino-bis(methylenephosphonic acid), hydroxyethylidene-diphosphonic acid, and 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid, were examined. A 10 mM solution of adenosine triphosphate disodium salt at pH 2.2 was used as BGE. The nominal compounds of the industrial APPs and their impurities were well resolved in less than 15 min. The peaks were identified by using extracted ion electropherograms…

On the determination of underivatised fatty alcohol ethoxylates by electrospray ionisation–mass spectrometry

2006

Abstract The oligomers of fatty alcohol ethoxylates (FAEs) exhibit large sensitivity differences in mass spectrometry with electrospray ionisation (ESI–MS) and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI). Standards of the oligomers from m = 1 to 7 ethylene oxide units (EOs) and linear alkyl chains from n = 10 to 18 carbon atoms were infused to examine the relative sensitivities or response factors in several media. The response factors of the [M + H]+ and [M + Na]+ peaks in 9:1 acetonitrile/water and methanol/water media containing acid buffers increased following irregular patterns when n and m increased. In methanol/water the response factors depended on the parity of m, being larger …

Cu2+ Coordination Properties of a 2-Pyridine Heptaamine Tripod: Characterization and Binding Mechanism

2009

The synthesis, protonation, and Cu(2+) coordination chemistry of a tripodal heptaamine ligand (L(1)) functionalized with 2-pyridine fragments at the ends of its three branches are reported. L(1) presents six relatively high protonation constants followed by much more reduced constant that as indicated by the UV-vis and NMR data, occur on the pyridine fragments. p[H]-metric, ESI/MS(+), EPR and UV-vis data show that L(1) is able to form mono-, di-, and trinuclear Cu(2+) complexes. Slippage movements and molecular reorganizations have been observed to occur as a function of p[H] in the 1:1 Cu(2+) complexes. The kinetic studies showed that the complex formation is fast and proceeds through a di…

d-Glucose as a multivalent chiral scaffold for combinatorial chemistry

2002

Due to their high density of functional groups and their availability in a variety of diastereomeric forms, monosaccharides are considered attractive scaffolds for combinatorial chemistry that allow the attachment and defined spatial alignment of up to five different pharmacophoric groups. For their application in combinatorial syntheses on solid phase, a set of selectively removable hydroxy protecting groups in combination with a cleavable anchor is required. Herein, we report on the construction and use of a versatile multivalent glucose building block for parallel synthesis on the solid phase.

A newin vitroapproach for the simultaneous determination of phase I and phase II enzymatic activities of human hepatocyte preparations

2007

Primary hepatocytes are still the best qualified in vitro system to anticipate drug metabolism in man. Recent advances in hepatocytes cryopreservation have notably increased their use not only for drug metabolism studies, but also for other applications such as cell transplantation. Evaluation of the drug-metabolizing competence of each hepatocytes preparation is needed. To date, the metabolic characterization of hepatocytes preparations relies on the assessment of phase I activities and the role of phase II enzymes receives little attention. A novel approach for the rapid assessment of the metabolic functionality of hepatocytes has been developed. A five-probe cocktail was used to simultan…

Intramolecularly Coordinated Bis(crown ether)-Substituted Organotin Halides as Ditopic Salt Receptors

2013

The synthesis of the bis(crown ether)-substituted organostannanes X2Sn(CH2-[16]-crown-5)2 (3, X = I; 4, X = Br; 5, X = Cl; 6, X = F) and X2Sn(CH2-[13]-crown-4)2 (10, X = I; 11, X = Br; 12, X = F) is reported. The compounds have been characterized by 1H, 13C, 19F, and 119Sn NMR spectroscopy, elemental analyses, and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal a distorted-octahedral cis,cis,trans configuration of the tin atoms in compounds 4–6 and 10–12 as a result of intramolecular O→Sn coordination. The ability of the host molecules to form mono- and ditopic complexes with various halide salts in different solvents, including water, ha…
