Gravitational Wave Echo of Relaxion Trapping
2021
To solve the hierarchy problem, the relaxion must remain trapped in the correct minimum, even if the electroweak symmetry is restored after reheating. In this scenario, the relaxion starts rolling again until the backreaction potential, with its set of local minima, reappears. Depending on the time of barrier reappearance, Hubble friction alone may be insufficient to retrap the relaxion in a large portion of the parameter space. Thus, an additional source of friction is required, which might be provided by coupling to a dark photon. The dark photon experiences a tachyonic instability as the relaxion rolls, which slows down the relaxion by backreacting to its motion, and efficiently creates a…

2012
A search for production of supersymmetric particles in final states containing jets, missing transverse momentum, and at least one hadronically decaying tau lepton is presented. The data were recor ...
Measurement of electroweak parameters from Z decays into fermion pairs
1990
We report on the properties of theZ resonance from 62 500Z decays into fermion pairs collected with the ALEPH detector at LEP, the Large Electron-Positron storage ring at CERN. We findMZ=(91.193±0.016exp±0.030LEP) GeV, ΓZ=(2497±31) MeV, σhad0=(41.86±0.66)nb, and for the partial widths Γinv=(489±24) MeV, Γhad(1754±27) MeV, Γee=(85.0±1.6)MeV, Γμμ=(80.0±2.5) MeV, and Γττ=(81.3±2.5) MeV, all in good agreement with the Standard Model. Assuming lepton universality and using a lepton sample without distinction of the final state we measure Γu=(84.3±1.3) MeV. The forward-backward asymmetry in leptonic decays is used to determine the vector and axial-vector weak coupling constants of leptors,gv2(MZ2…
Bounding effective operators at the one-loop level: the case of four-fermion neutrino interactions
1994
The contributions of non-standard four-neutrino contact interactions to electroweak observables are considered at the one-loop level by using the effective quantum field theory. The analysis is done in terms of three unknown parameters: the strength of the non-standard neutrino interactions, $\tilde{F}$, an additional derivative coupling needed to renormalize the divergent contributions that appear when the four-neutrino interactions are used at the loop level and a non-standard non-derivative $Z$-${\bar\nu} \nu$ coupling. Then, the precise measurements of the invisible width of the $Z$-boson at LEP and the data on the neutrino deep-inelastic scattering yield the result $\tilde{F} = (-100 \…
Measuring anomalous couplings inH→WW*decays at the International Linear Collider
2013
The measurement of the Higgs coupling to $W$ bosons is an important test of our understanding of the electroweak symmetry-breaking mechanism. We study the sensitivity of the International Linear Collider (ILC) to the presence of anomalous $H{W}^{+}{W}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ couplings using $ZH\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\nu}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}W{W}^{*}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\nu}\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}4j$ events. Using an effective Lagrangian approach, we calculate the differential decay rates of the Higgs boson including the effects of new dimension-five operators. We present a Monte Carlo simulation of events at the ILC, using a full detector simulation based on …
On the unification of electroweak interactions with gravity
1982
It is shown that the electroweak interactions in the Salam-Weinberg model can be described by a space-time connection form which preserves the space-time metric multiplied by a conformal factor. In addition, one needs an extraSO(2)-connection form. The Dirac field in this formalism is described (after making a certain regularity assumption) by a vierbein field for the space-time metric and a complex scalar field.
Search for anomalous electroweak production of WW/WZ in association with a high-mass dijet system in pp collisions at s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector
2017
A search is presented for anomalous quartic gauge boson couplings in vector-boson scattering. The data for the analysis correspond to $20.2$ fb$^{-1}$ of $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV $pp$ collisions, and were collected in 2012 by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The search looks for the production of $WW$ or $WZ$ boson pairs accompanied by a high-mass dijet system, with one $W$ decaying leptonically, and a $W$ or $Z$ decaying hadronically. The hadronically decaying $W/Z$ is reconstructed as either two small-radius jets or one large-radius jet using jet substructure techniques. Constraints on the anomalous quartic gauge boson coupling parameters $\alpha_4$ and $\alpha_5$ are set by fit…
The Physics of the Higgs-like Boson
2013
The present knowledge on the Higgs-like boson discovered at the LHC is summarized. The data accumulated so far are consistent with the Standard Model predictions and put interesting constraints on alternative scenarios of electroweak symmetry breaking. The measured couplings to gauge bosons and third-generation fermions indicate that a Higgs particle has indeed been found. More precise data are needed to clarify whether it is the unique Higgs boson of the Standard Model or the first member of a new variety of dynamical (either elementary or composite) fields.
Higgs production and decay in models of a warped extra dimension with a bulk Higgs
2014
Warped extra-dimension models in which the Higgs boson is allowed to propagate in the bulk of a compact AdS5 space are conjectured to be dual to models featuring a partially composite Higgs boson. They offer a framework with which to investigate the implications of changing the scaling dimension of the Higgs operator, which can be used to reduce the constraints from electroweak precision data. In the context of such models, we calculate the cross section for Higgs production in gluon fusion and the H → γγ decay rate and show that they are finite (at one-loop order) as a consequence of gauge invariance. The extended scalar sector comprising the Kaluza-Klein excitations of the Standard Model …
Electroweak precision data and right-handed gauge bosons
1998
The implication of recent electroweak precision data for left-right symmetric models is examined. We establish a lower bound on the charged and neutral right-handed gauge bosons independent of the right-handed neutrino mass and of any restrictions or implied symmetries on the right KM matrix.
