The article presents graduate programs (Masters level) in the field of social pedagogy off ered by Helena Radlińska and her colleagues at the University of Łódź aft er WWII. Socio-Pedagogical studies established at the Department of Social Pedagogy at the University of Łódz were supposed to prepare educational, social, and cultural workers in time of revival of Poland after 1945. Cohesion coexists with discontinuity: the publication of My Brilliant Friend marks an inventive turning point and reveals new strategies. But it’s even remarkable Ferrante’s predilection for a narrative in which «the flow of storytelling that despite its density manages to sweep you away».
Desulfurization: Critical step towards enhanced selenium removal from industrial effluents

Abstract Selenium (Se) removal from synthetic solutions and from real Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) wastewater generated by a coal-fired power plant was studied for the first time using a commercial iron oxide impregnated strong base anion exchange resin, Purolite ® FerrIX A33E. In synthetic solutions, the resin showed high affinity for selenate and selenite, while sulfate exhibited a strong competition for both oxyanions. The FGD wastewater investigated is a complex system that contains Se (∼1200 μg L −1 ), SO 4 2− (∼1.1 g L −1 ), Cl − (∼9.5 g L −1 ), and Ca 2+ (∼5 g L −1 ), alongside a broad spectrum of toxic trace metals including Cd, Cr, Hg, Ni, and Zn. The potential of Toxkit microbiotests to detect and analyze pollution in agricultural soil and the quality of compost was studied. The toxicity tests used included seed germination biotests using cress salad (Lepidum sativum L.), tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum L.), and cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.), and the Toxkit microbiotests included those with microalgae (Selenastrum capricornutum), protozoa (Tetrahymena thermophila), crustaceans (Daphnia magna, Thamnocephalus platyurus, and Heterocypris incongruens), and rotifers (Brachionus calyciflorus). The paper proposes a graphic re-reading of the “House of Dr. N. in Warsaw” that Helena Niemirowska, female pioneer of Modern Movement, designed in 1932. The building, on two levels, shows in its form a strict geometric layout and a three parted-subdivision plan in which she defines the functional inside layout both at the ground floor and at the first one. Helena combines Suprematism and the Modern Movement, cultural influences that are revealed, as well as in her other projects, by surfaces, colours and volumes of seemingly static treatment.
