Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) represent a key component in emerging distributed computing paradigms such as IoT, Ambient Intelligence, and Smart Cities. In these contexts, the difficulty of testing, verifying, and monitoring applications in their intended scenarios ranges from challenging to impractical. Current simulators can only be used to investigate correctness at source code level and with limited accuracy. Real-Time Object Detection in Embedded Video Surveillance Systems

In this paper we report a new method to detect both moving objects and new stationary objects in video sequences. On the basis of temporal consideration we classify pixels into three classes: background, midground and foreground to distinguish between long-term, medium-term and short-term changes. The algorithm has been implemented on a hardware platform with limited resources and it could be used in a wider system like a wireless sensor networks. Particular care has been put in realizing the algorithm so that the limited available resources are used in an efficient way. Experiments have been conducted on publicly available datasets and performance measures are reported.

Bluetooth-3G wireless transmission system for neural signal telemetry

In this contribution a wireless transmission system for neural signals is developed. This system includes data compression algorithms at the information source, namely neural signals recorded by micro-electrode arrays. The signals are transmitted over Bluetooth to a mobile device that, without any processing or storing, retransmits it over 3G to a remote server where signal post-processing and analysis is performed. High dynamic range (HDR) image generation using temporal exposure bracketing is widely used to recover the whole dynamic range of a filmed scene by fusion of two or more low dynamic range (LDR) images. Temporal exposure bracketing technique should be employed for static scenes and it cannot be applied directly for dynamic scenes. Motions introduced by moving objects in the LDR stack images create ghosts artifacts in the reconstructed HDR image. Cost comparison of image rotation implantations on static and dynamic Reconfigurable FPGAs

FPGA components are widely used today to perform various algorithms (digital filtering) in real time. The emergence of Dynamically Reconfigurable (DR) FPGAs made it possible to reduce the number of necessary resources to carry out an image processing application (tasks chain). We present in this article an image processing application (image rotation) that exploits the FPGA 's dynamic reconfiguration feature. A comparison is undertaken between the dynamic and static reconfiguration by using two criteria, cost and performance criteria. For the sake of testing the validity of our approach in terms of Algorithm and Architecture Adequacy, we realized an AT40K40 based board ARDOISE.
