The European multicenter cohort study on cyanoacrylate embolization of refluxing great saphenous veins
2014
ObjectiveCyanoacrylate (CA) embolization of refluxing great saphenous veins (GSVs) has been previously described. The outcomes from a multicenter study are still lacking.MethodsA prospective multicenter study was conducted in seven centers in four European countries to abolish GSV reflux by endovenous CA embolization. Neither tumescent anesthesia nor postinterventional compression stockings were used. Varicose tributaries remained untreated until at least 3 months after the index treatment. Clinical examination, quality of life assessment, and duplex ultrasound evaluation were performed at 2 days and after 1, 3, 6, and 12 months.ResultsIn 70 patients, of whom 68 (97.1%) were available for 1…
Transcatheter embolization of the kidney with butyl-2-cyanoacrylate: Experimental and clinical results
1978
The technique and efficacy of therapeutic catheter embolization of the kidney with butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (Histoacryl) were studied in 80 rabbits (including control groups) and in 10 dogs. A mixture of butyl-2-cyanoacrylate, 50% glucose, and tantalum powder was used for the embolization. Complete and permanent vascular occlusion was found in nearly all cases. The main complication observed was a reflux of embolizing material into the lumbar arteries, which occurred in seven rabbits. Clinically, therapeutic embolization was performed in six patients with hypernephroma. The indication for embolization in these patients, as well as in two others with iatrogenic lesions, was pronounced hematuria…
Endovascular management of a large aneurysm of the superior vena cava involving internal thoracic vein with remodeling technique
2016
International audience; We report a case describing endovascular treatment of a large aneurysm of the superior vena cava involving internal thoracic vein. The goal of this case report is to highlight the contributing role of embolization with remodeling technique in such an exceptional condition.
RADIOPROTECTION IN 2018: AN UPDATE
2018
Fluoroscopically-guided interventional procedures are performed in large numbers in Europe and in the United States. Radiation doses received by interventional radiologists can vary for the same type of procedure and for similar patient doses. Occupational radiation protection is a necessity whenever radiation is used in the practice of medicine. The International Commission on Radiological Protection is engaging against occupational radiation damages, publishing regular recommendations on dose limits. These limits are expressed as effective doses for the whole body and also as equivalent doses for particular regions or tissues of practitioners’ bodies. Shielding and personal protective clo…
