Csr communication strategies of Colombian business groups: an analysis of corporate reports

2018

ABSTRACT: The aim of this paper is to assess stakeholder orientation and corporate social responsibility (CSR) communication strategies in the business groups (BGs) of an emerging economy by means of content analysis. We worked with 30 non-financial BGs taken from the Colombian Stock Exchange. The study uses as its unit of analysis corporate reports that have been classified into four categories: annual reports (ARs), sustainability reports (SRs), combined reports (CRs), and integrated reports (IRs). The results show that IRs are the most similar reports, that Colombian BGs are mainly employee-oriented (ARs, SRs, CRs) and shareholder-oriented (IRs), and that response and involvement communi…

Relevance of trade facilitation in emerging countries exports

2012

The objective of this article is to analyse trade flows in emerging nations with a maritime boundary, where trade facilitation plays a decisive role in their international development. In order to detect possible patterns in performance, we apply the economic approach of gravity models using the World Bank Logistic Performance Index (LPI) as a good proxy of trade facilitation. The results of the estimation lead to the conclusion that the more complex the transportation of goods is, the more influential the logistics indicator, trade facilitation being most prominent in Middle East exporters.

Testing the financial market informational efficiency in emerging states

2012

The Efficient Markets Hypothesis (EMH) has been one of the most influential ideas in the past years and highlights that assets prices incorporate all information rationally and instantaneously. The last financial crisis has led to criticism of this hypothesis. Many practical observations concerning the reaction of investors, but also the mechanisms for the information encompassing in the price of stocks, come to highlight the aspects of 'market inefficiency'. Despite its simplicity, the EMH is surprisingly difficult to test and considerable care has to be exercised in empirical tests. It has attracted a considerable number of studies in empirical finance, particularly in determining the mar…

On the Location Attractiveness of Emerging Countries for Foreign Direct Investments

2016

Our paper investigates the FDI attracting potential of emerging markets by in terms of their location attributes. We use Statistical cluster analysis to study the dynamic evolution of emerging markets’ clusters, based on country attributes that are relevant for the MNEs location decision. We find that countries tend to be grouped at a geographical level or depending on the various resources they possess, except for China that clusters independently. Also, there are numerous countries’ transitions from one cluster to another over the years, which indicate a natural process of changing location attributes and market development for many emerging economies.

MULTINATIONAL ENTERPRISES – DYNAMICS AND TRENDS

2012

Multinational enterprises (MNEs) represent both cause and result of the new economic geography of globalization. Thus, the dynamics and trends of the world’s most influential MNEs contribute decisively to the new global architecture and to the economic development, being influenced, at their turn, by these processes of continuous reconfiguration and evolution that take place on the global arena. The paper proposes a comparative (in space) and historical (in time) analysis of the most well known global rankings of the multinational enterprises – Fortune Global 500 on one hand, and The world's top 100 non-financial TNCs, ranked by foreign assets and Top 100 non-financial TNCs from developing …

Adoption of social media marketing for sustainable business growth of SMEs in emerging economies: The moderating role of leadership support

2021

Social media marketing (SMM) plays an important role in business communication, marketing, operations, and other activities. There is a growing interest among researchers, academicians, and practitioners to understand the role of SMM in business sustainability in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in an emerging economy, like India. Sustainable urban transport policy in emerging countries – case study of Mexico

2015

Are importing and exporting complements or substitutes in an emerging economy? The case of Colombia

2021

The aim of this paper is to investigate the impact of two trading strategies (exporting and importing) on total factor productivity (TFP) and the potential complementarity/substitutability effects of these strategies. In order to assess these effects, robust estimates of TFP are obtained using a general method of moments approach that explicitly determines the ability of a firm's trading experience to affect productivity. Data from the Annual Manufacturing Survey spanning from 2007 to 2016 is used for Colombian manufacturing firms. Our estimation results suggest that, regardless of the technological intensity of the industry in which the firm operates, active trading strategies (exporting o…
