Pedagogiczne i psychologiczne aspekty empatii w twórczości naukowej i życiu Edyty Stein
2016
The origins of the term ‘empathy’ go back to the beginning of the 20th century, when the foundation of analyses of the phenomenon were philosophical (phenomenological) deliberations on the issue of getting to know mental states of other people. The first psychologist to draw on achievements of phenomenologists and to use the term Die Einfühlung was Theodor Lipps (Lipps 1897). In the Anglo-Saxon literature the term was translated as ‘empathy’, sharing another person’s emotions. In our times, in pedagogy and psychotherapy, significant findings on empathy were made by Carl Rogers (1975), a personality psychologist. The article presents fragments of selected Edith Stein’s letters and statements…

2014
AbstractThe aim of this study is to analyse the relationships between intercultural sensitivity, empathy, self-concept and satisfaction with life in upper level primary school students. Possible gender differences in these variables are analysed, and their results on self-concept, empathy and satisfaction with life are compared in students with higher and lower levels of intercultural sensitivity. The sample is composed of 473 students (52% boys and 48% girls) between 10 and 13 years old (M = 10.79, SD = 0.74). The results show more intercultural sensitivity, emotional empathy and academic self-concept in girls compared with boys, and higher levels of emotional empathy, social self-concept …

¿Se relaciona el ajuste escolar con la empatía ambiental y la conexión con la naturaleza?
2019
ABSTRACT Environmental empathy and connectedness to nature are two main constructs that explain variations in pro-environmental behavior. However, little is known about whether environmental (cognitive and emotional) empathy and connectedness to nature might vary as a function of school adjustment. Participants were 881 Spanish adolescents from 12 to 17 years old (47.2% males). The design was a 2 × 2 MANOVA (school adjustment × sex). Results of the CFA analysis confirmed the theoretical assumptions about two different but related aspects of environmental empathy (cognitive and emotional) and connectedness to nature as a unidimensional construct. Overall, results showed that high school adju…

Parenting style and peer attachment as predictors of emotional instability in children
2017
We analyzed the roles of parenting style and peer attachment in predicting emotional instability in late childhood and early adolescence. Effects were analyzed separately by gender. Children's personal variables analyzed were empathy, anger, and the mechanisms used to cope with anger (externalization and self-control). Participants were 316 girls and 294 boys (N = 610) aged from 9 to 12 years who were students at schools in Valencia, Spain. Main gender differences for each variable were examined using one-way ANOVAs. Results of 2 multiple linear regression analyses (1 for boys and 1 for girls) explained 50.9% and 35.5%, respectively, of variance in the students' emotional instability. Consi…
The risk of sexual-erotic online behavior in adolescents – Which personality factors predict sexting and grooming victimization?
2021
Abstract Information and communication technologies provide new opportunities for adolescents to establish and maintain intimate relationships, as well as exploring their sexuality. However, the young population is particularly vulnerable to becoming victims of violence or online abuse. The aim of this study was to understand to which extent the personality factors (extraversion, narcissism, lack of empathy and disinhibition) are related to sexting and online grooming victimization. The participants were 1763 adolescents between 12 and 16 years (M = 14.56, SD = 1.16, 50.99% girls). A cross-sectional design with self-report data was used, analyzed by structural equation modeling (SEM). The r…
