The article takes Zachary Baqué's study of Los Angeles in the films of David Lynch as a starting point to explore David Lynch's Hollywood movies. The author contends that the films offer more than a satirical representation of a corrupt, unhealthy system which threatens dreams and artistic creativity, or a parodic play on Hollywood genre and narrative conventions. The article presents a piece of work of an excellent director of Polish theatre, Jerzy Jarocki, who was able to connect literature and historiosophy of writers whose plays were shown on a stage. He was deeply interested in the history of Russia; furthermore, he studied works of Witkacy and Sławomir Mrożek. The mentioned artists were also fascinated in eventful history of Russia. One of the last plays of Mrożek was "Love in the Crimea” which can be interpreted as a historiosophical allegory depicting history of Russian culture from the end of the Tsarist Age, through Stalinism, to capitalism. ABSTRACT: Throughout his life, Joseph Brodsky clung stubbornly to a set of habits and tastes. One of his most outstanding and surprising loyalties was his writing a Christmas poem every year, which in time produced around thirty different pieces. Among these is the remarkable «Dec 24, 1971», his last Christmas poem before he left the Soviet Union, which contains a reference to his idea of «empire» –a criticism of totalitarian regimes– plus an idea of Christianity as a religion of hospitality and brotherhood.
