The impact of workload and job satisfaction on occupational stress -A comparison among newly qualified and experienced midwives in Poland.

BACKGROUND: Midwives are potentially exposed to high levels of occupational stress. The level of stress may be related to the job demands and job resources, as well as midwife seniority. To date, few studies on the determinants of occupational stress have examined Polish midwives. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the roles of workload, job satisfaction, and seniority in shaping the stress levels of midwives in Poland. METHODS: A cross-sectional approach and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used to compare two groups: newly qualified midwives (NQMs; n = 79) and experienced midwives (n = 99). This paper describes the modeling of employee attitudes to safety in three industrial sectors operating in the UK. Gauging employee attitudes to safety has become an increasingly important method of appraising human factors issues in many organizations. Public Employees as Politicians: Evidence from Close Elections

We analyze the effect of municipal employees’ political representation in municipal councils on local public spending. We use within-party, as-good-as-random variation in close elections in the Finnish open-list proportional election system to quantify the effect. One more councilor employed by the public sector increases spending by about 1%. The effect comes largely through the largest party and is specific to the employment sector of the municipal employee. The results are consistent with public employees having an information advantage over other politicians, and thus, being able to influence policy.

La formation professionnelle est rarement abordée du point de vue de la personne qui se forme. Pourquoi et comment des salariés se décident-ils à suivre une formation financée par leur employeur ? De nombreux témoignages recueillis dans dix-sept entreprises mettent en évidence la persistance de certaines inégalités au détriment des femmes : une moindre diversité des stages, une plus grande proportion d'actions de courte durée et peu diplômantes, un moindre accès à la formation notamment pour le personnel ouvrier, mais aussi un manque de propositions et d'informations et, un certain oubli des contraintes familiales dans l'organisation des stages.

This study aimed to improve our understanding of what constitutes a healthy organizational change process among university employees. Positive attitudes and proactive participation toward organizational change were presumed to affect and be affected by personality resources measured via core self-evaluations and work-related motivational well-being (vigor). Differences in physical activity at recess and school-related social factors in four Finnish lower secondary schools

This study investigated the differences in physical activity (PA) at recess and school-related social factors, and described school PA promotion processes and staff experiences at four lower secondary schools from the Finnish Schools on the Move programme. Recess PA, peer relationships at school, relatedness to school, and school climate were assessed via surveys with eighth-grade students in spring 2011 (n ¼ 385) and spring 2013 (n ¼ 373).
