Gestural expressions in use for unveiling dynamic experience attributed to verbs
2013
The focus of this paper is on justifying the presented experimental design that aims at examining the enactive linkages between a verb’s content and a sensorimotor experience of movement. The experiment utilised spontaneous production of hand and vocal gestures for expressing the energetic feel attributed to a word. Preliminary qualitative analysis of the expressions shows degrees of similarity in terms of experiential movement qualities. These results imply that conceiving a verb’s meaning is not necessarily far removed from bodily action. peerReviewed
Ravinnon vaikutuksia valikoituihin verimuuttujiin kansallisen tason miesjalkapalloilijoilla kilpailukaudella
2015
Johdanto. Tutkimus toteutettiin kilpailukaud…

2015
Tutkielmassa tarkastellaan 20:n S2-oppijan kokemuksia ja käsityksiä suomen kielen oppimisesta ja WordDive-kielenoppimisohjelmiston käyttämisestä. WordDive on samannimisen yrityksen julkaisema multimodaalinen oppimateriaali.
Ideal types of online shoppers : a qualitative analysis of online shopping behavior
2018
Due to the growing popularity of online shopping, there is a growing demand for understanding the motives and behaviour of online shoppers. This study aims to increase this understanding by examining online shopping behaviour from the perspective of UTAUT2 theory integrated with self-efficacy and risk avoidance components. The thematically analysed data from 31 participants highlights the unique aspects of online shoppers by grouping them into ideal types, presenting the data as extensively as possible. An ideal type is an analytical construct used to ascertain similarities and deviations to concrete cases in an individual phenomenon. This study discovered five ideal types of online shopper…

Infographics as a Reflective Assignment Method in Requirements Engineering e-Course?
2019
Our Work in Progress Paper in Innovative Practice Category focuses on how learners’ experience use of infographics in advanced level e-course on requirements engineering (RE). Infographics are visual representations of information in such a way that information can be easily understood at a glance. Most of the previous infographics studies have been conducted in the context of inquiry learning. To complement this research, we studied how learners experience use of infographics as a method for reflective assignment and hence if the usage of infographics supported conceptualization about RE. We adopted a qualitative content analysis approach, applying thematic network analysis to the data rec…
Using a blended approach to enrich MOOCs on Finnish education
2021
Blended education embraces various combinations of face-to-face and online teaching. It has become a normal part of higher education degree programmes. Since the late 1990s, the Open University of the University of Jyväskylä (JYUOpen) has been offering online and blended education for its rapidly growing number of students. For many years now, Finnish education has ranked high in PISA research. Furthermore, the University of Jyväskylä has been successful in global rankings, especially in the field of education (Shanghai Ranking: 36, QS World University Rankings: 51–100 and Times Higher Education: 67). Learning Slovak in new language learning environments
2017
The aim of this dissertation is to throw light on the development of teaching and learning Slovak in the new language learning environment. New developments in teaching led to the design of an experimental e-learning course in Slovak based on the philosophy of dynamic learning and using the metaphor of climbing a mountain for learning Slovak. The course was grounded in constructivist views of learning and teaching, which emphasize the importance of learning by doing and the process-like nature of learning. The teaching experiment included reflection-on-action research, with the goal of exploring learners' beliefs about themselves as e-learners before the course, and their perceptions and ex…
Digitaalisen Nuorten Kompassi plus -hyvinvointiohjelman soveltuvuus lukiolaisille
2022
Finnish Classroom Teacher Students' Experiences of an Online Music Course During The COVID pandemic
2022
When studying music, skills are often practised with a teacher, face-to-face, in a classroom. What are the experiences of classroom teacher trainees when music teaching becomes asynchronous, i.e., an individually completed online course? This question, among other things, was explored at a Finnish University's Teacher Education Department in autumn 2020, resulting in the production of a two-credit online music course on the Moodle learning environment. It was implemented for the first time during the summer term in 2021. The students’ experiences with the functionality of the e-learning module were analysed through data-driven content analysis. The study represents an intensive case study u…
