Durability of solvent-free one-step self-etch adhesive under simulated intrapulpal pressure
2015
Background: There are different solvents presented in simplified adhesives. Bond-1 SF has been developed, which contains neither water nor organic solvents, in order to eliminate technical issues in terms of evaporation of solvents and concerns for the durability of resin-dentin bond. Thus this study was conducted to evaluate the microtensile bond strength (μTBS) of solvent-free and ethanol-based one-step self-etch adhesives to dentin under simulated intrapulpal pressure (IPP). Material and Methods: Occlusal surfaces of human molars were prepared to expose mid-dentin depth. Bond-1SF Solvent-Free SE [SF] and Adper TM easy one [AE] adhesives were applied on dentin specimens. Resin composite b…
Clinical study on resin composite and glass ionomer materials in II class restorations in permanent teeth
2020
Background Glass ionomer cements (GIC) used for restoration of missing dental structures have high biocompatibility and remineralization potential. However, low mechanical resistance excludes their use for long-term restorations of extensive lesions, particularly on approximal surfaces in permanent dentition. GIC with increased viscosity have much better physical properties, which involves better bonding and wear resistance, so they can be considered as an alternative to composite resin materials. The aim of this study was to perform a clinical and radiological assessment of restorations in permanent teeth, made with an increased viscosity GIC - Equia Fil (Ivoclar Vivadent) with Equia Coat …
Association of Vital Pulp Therapy Outcomes with Tooth Type, Arch Location, Treatment Type, and Number of Surfaces Destroyed in Deciduous Teeth: A Ret…
2021
There is a paucity of information concerning vital pulp treatment outcomes in the undergraduate teaching setting. This study aimed to determine which type of deciduous molar, arch location, type of vital pulp therapy, and the number of carious surfaces involved had a better prognosis when carried out by undergraduate dental students. The method used was the review of clinical records of 590 patients with 600 deciduous molars, that visited the outpatient undergraduate dental clinics for vital pulp therapy. Statistical analysis used to determine the associations of tooth type, arch location, treatment type, and the number of carious surfaces involved in successful outcomes was logistic regres…
Radiographic technical quality of root canal treatment performed ex vivo by dental students at Valencia University Medical and Dental School, Spain
2013
Objectives: To evaluate radiographically the quality of root canal fillings and compare manual and rotary preparation performed on extracted teeth by undergraduate dental students. Study Design: A total of 561 premolars and molars extracted teeth were prepared using nickel-titanium rotary files or manual instrumentation and filled with gutta-percha using a cold lateral condensation technique, by 4th grade undergraduate students. Periapical radiographs were used to assess the technical quality of the root canal filling, evaluating three variables: length, density and taper. These data were recorded, scored and used to study the “technical success rate” and the “overall score”. The length of …
Vertical root fractures: A time-dependent clinical condition. A case-control study in two colombian populations
2021
Background This nested case-control study can be viewed as an efficient way to sample subjects from a large cohort study case-control study aimed to analyze the effect of different clinical factors on the appearance of vertical root fractures in endodontically-treated teeth (ETT) over time. Material and Methods By matching 90 cases and 270 controls nested in a cohort of 450 patients. Incident “cases” included those ETT in which a confirmed VRF. The “controls” were ETT with clinical and radiographic evidence of normality. When an “incident case” was detected, three random “controls” according to the evaluation time registered in years were selected. Time interval corresponded to the exposure…
Fracture strength of endodontically treated lateral incisors restored with new zirconia reinforced rice husk nanohybrid composite
2020
Background This study aimed to compare the fracture strength, fracture pattern and type of fracture of endodontically treated maxillary lateral incisors restored with new zirconia reinforced rice husk nanohybrid composite. Material and Methods Eighty mature permanent maxillary lateral incisors from patients age range of 30-60 years with single canal were selected and randomly divided into: Group 1 – RCT + nanofilled composite (Filtek), Group 2 – RCT + microhybrid composite (Zmack), Group 3 – RCT + new nanohybrid composite (Zr-Hybrid) and Group 4 - Intact teeth (control). Standardized mesio-palatal-distal cavity was prepared, and endodontic treatment was carried out using crown-down techniqu…
Publication trends in journal of clinical and experimental dentistry
2019
Background Journal of Clinical and Experimental Dentistry (J Clin Exp Dent; JCED) is an English language journal published by the Spanish Society of Oral Surgery, and has been online since 2009. It is indexed in PubMed Central and Scopus since 2012, with monthly publications since 2016. The purpose of this article was to review and analyse the publications in this journal since its inception, over a period of 11 years (2009-2019). Material and methods This paper assessed the number, type and subjects of the articles published in the journal over 11 years. The institutions of the first authors, number of PubMed citations and the Hirsch (h5) index was assessed and analysed. Results The manusc…
Pregabalin in the treatment of inferior alveolar nerve paraesthesia following overfilling of endodontic sealer
2014
A case of orofacial pain and inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) paraesthesia after extrusion of endodontic sealer within the mandibular canal treated with prednisone and pregabalin is described. A 36-year-old woman underwent root canal treatment of the mandibular second right premolar tooth. Post-operative panoramic radiograph revealed the presence of radiopaque canal sealer in the mandibular canal. Damage to IAN consecutive to extrusion of endodontic sealer was diagnosed. Non-surgical management was decided, including: 1 mg/kg/day prednisone 2 times/day, once-daily regimen, and 150 mg/day pregabalin, two doses per day, monitoring the progress with periodic follow-up visits. Six weeks after the …
A Comparison of Different Irrigation Systems and Gravitational Effect on Final Extrusion of the Irrigant
2015
Background: The aim of this study was to compare manual needle irrigation (MNI), RinsEndo (RE), and passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI), and assess the effect of gravity on extrusion from the apex in vitro. Material and Methods: The distobuccal roots of molars were used and the canals were instrumented up to F2. Teeth were mounted on models, which permitted visualization and manipulation of the apices for necessary procedures. The models were placed in articulator to simulate the jaw. Six groups (G) were formed as: G1, G2 and G3 represented mandibular positioning of teeth and were irrigated with MNI, RE, and PUI, respectively, while G4, G5, and G6 represented maxillary positioning of teeth …
Comparison of diagnostic accuracy between periapical and panoramic radiographs and cone beam computed tomography in measuring the periapical area of …
2019
Background The aim of the study was compare the sensitivity and measurements obtained from teeth with apical lesions scheduled for periapical surgery using three different diagnostic methods: periapical radiography (Gendex Expert DC), panoramic radiography (Planmeca® Promax 3D Classic) and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) (Planmeca® Promax 3D Classic). Material and methods This cross-sectional study involved 35 patients (45 teeth) scheduled for periapical surgery in which periapical radiographs, panoramic radiographs and CBCT scans had been obtained. The images were used to analyze the maximum vertical and horizontal dimension and the resulting areas of the periapical lesions based on t…
