Effects of eight weeks physical training on physical performance and heart rate variability in children
2013
Kraama, Liisa. 2013. Kahdeksan viikon fyysisen harjoittelun vaikutus lasten fyysiseen suorituskykyyn ja sydämen sykevaihteluun. Jyväskylän yliopisto, Liikuntabiologian laitos. Liikuntafysiologian Pro gradu –tutkielma. 52 s. Aikuisilla on harjoittelun aikaansaamien fyysisen suorituskyvyn muutosten todettu olevan yhteydessä sykevaihtelun, erityisesti parasympaattista aktiivisuutta kuvaavaan korkean taajuuden sykevaihtelun, kasvuun. Tässä pro gradu -tutkiel…
Impact of Plasma Oxidative Stress Markers on Post-race Recovery in Ultramarathon Runners: A Sex and Age Perspective Overview
2021
Oxidative stress has been widely studied in association to ultra-endurance sports. Although it is clearly demonstrated the increase in reactive oxygen species and free radicals after these extreme endurance exercises, the effects on the antioxidant defenses and the oxidative damage to macromolecules, remain to be fully clarified. Therefore, the aim of this study was to elucidate the impact of an ultramarathon race on the plasma markers of oxidative stress of 32 runners and their post-race recovery, with especial focused on sex and age effect. For this purpose, the antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione reductase (GR) activity, as well as the lipid peroxidation prod…

PROTEOMIC CHANGES INDUCED BY LOW-INTENSITY ENDURANCE EXERCISE IN MDX MOUSE QUADRICEPS: CORRELATION WITH REDUCTION OF MUSCLE DEGENERATION.
2015
Previous study showed that low-intensity endurance exercise induced a significant recovery of damaged skeletal muscle in mdx mice, probably by reducing the degeneration of dystrophic muscle1. In order to explore the molecular basis of this observation, we perfomed a proteomic analysis to evaluate changes in proteins profiling of quadriceps dystrophic muscles of exercised versus sedentary mdx mice. Four protein spots were found significantly changed and were identified as three isoforms of Carbonic anhydrase 3 (CA3) and as superoxide dismutase [Cu-Zn] (SODC). Protein levels of CA3 isoforms were found significantly up-regulated in quadriceps of sedentary mdx mice (MDX-Sed) and were completely…
Bronchial epithelial damage after a half-marathon in nonasthmatic amateur runners.
2010
Am J Physiol Lung Cell Mol Physiol. 2010 Jun;298(6):L857-62. Epub 2010 Apr 2. Bronchial epithelial damage after a half-marathon in nonasthmatic amateur runners. Chimenti L, Morici G, Paternò A, Santagata R, Bonanno A, Profita M, Riccobono L, Bellia V, Bonsignore MR. SourceDept. Biomedico Di Medicina Interna & Specialistica, Section of Pneumology, Univ. of Palermo, Via Trabucco 180, 90146 Palermo, Italy. laurachimenti@yahoo.it Abstract High neutrophil counts in induced sputum have been found in nonasthmatic amateur runners at rest and after a marathon, but the pathogenesis of airway neutrophilia in athletes is still poorly understood. Bronchial epithelial damage may occur during intense exer…
αB-crystallin response to a pro-oxidant non-cytotoxic environment in murine cardiac cells: An "in vitro" and "in vivo" study.
2020
The αB-crystallin (HSPB5) protein is modulated in response to a wide variety of stressors generated by multiple physio-pathological conditions, sustained by reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. In cardiac muscle tissue, this protein regulates various cellular processes, such as protein degradation, apoptosis and the stabilization of cytoskeletal elements. In this work, we studied the role of HSPB5 expression, activation and localization in HL-1 murine cardiomyocytes exposed to pro-oxidant and non-cytotoxic H2O2 concentration, as well as in cardiac tissue isolated from mice following an acute, non-damaging endurance exercise. Our results demonstrated that HSPB5 is the most abundant HSP …
