Assessment of the Usability and Accuracy of Two-Diode Models for Photovoltaic Modules

2017

Many diode-based equivalent circuits for simulating the electrical behaviour of photovoltaic (PV) cells and panels are reported in the scientific literature. Two-diode equivalent circuits, which require more complex procedures to calculate the seven model parameters, are less numerous. The model parameters are generally calculated using the data extracted from the datasheets issued by the PV panel manufactures and adopting simplifying hypotheses and numerical solving techniques. A criterion for rating both the usability and accuracy of two-diode models is proposed in this paper with the aim of supporting researchers and designers, working in the area of PV systems, to select and use a model…

A Criterion for Rating the Usability and Accuracy of the One-Diode Models for Photovoltaic Modules

2016

In selecting a mathematical model for simulating physical behaviours, it is important to reach an acceptable compromise between analytical complexity and achievable precision. With the aim of helping researchers and designers working in the area of photovoltaic systems to make a choice among the numerous diode-based models, a criterion for rating both the usability and accuracy of one-diode models is proposed in this paper. A three-level rating scale, which considers the ease of finding the data used by the analytical procedure, the simplicity of the mathematical tools needed to perform calculations and the accuracy achieved in calculating the current and power, is used. The proposed criter…

Assessment of the Usability and Accuracy of the Simplified One-Diode Models for Photovoltaic Modules

2016

Models for photovoltaic (PV) cells and panels, based on the diode equivalent circuit, have been widely used because they are effective tools for system design. Many authors have presented simplified one-diode models whose three or four parameters are calculated using the data extracted from the datasheets issued by PV panel manufactures and adopting some simplifying hypotheses and numerical solving techniques. Sometimes it may be difficult to make a choice among so many models. To help researchers and designers working in the area of photovoltaic systems in selecting the model that is fit for purpose, a criterion for rating both the usability and accuracy of simplified one-diode models is p…

Probing the low-temperature chemistry of ethanol via the addition of dimethyl ether

2018

Considering the importance of ethanol (EtOH) as an engine fuel and a key component of surrogate fuels, the further understanding of its auto-ignition and oxidation characteristics at engine-relevant conditions (high pressures and low temperatures) is still necessary. However, it remains difficult to measure ignition delay times for ethanol at temperatures below 850 K with currently available facilities including shock tube and rapid compression machine due to its low reactivity. Considering the success of our recent study of toluene oxidation under similar conditions [38], dimethyl ether (DME) has been selected as a radical initiator to explore the low-temperature reactivity of ethanol. In …

Effects of post-filtering in grid-synchronization algorithms under grid faults

2018

Abstract The spread of distributed generation systems has reinforced concerns and requirements on grid-tied power converters. The synchronization with the utility voltage vector is a major concern. In the literature, algorithms based on Phase Locked Loops are extensively presented. In spite of adequate performances under ideal and balanced grid conditions, under grid faults great inaccuracies arise. Shortcomings are overcome by advanced algorithms at the expenses of the complexity and computational cost. In this paper, grid synchronization algorithms are addressed. A solution is proposed by introducing a new post-filter stage in a Decoupled Double Synchronous Reference Frame not affecting, …

Analyzing the strategies used in media discourse management

2015

Digital economy is based on digital revolution and information management that gave rise to the new media image in the era of globalization. Media and media discourse management is a completely new concept for establishing innovative relations between manufacturer and consumer. The subject of interest of the present article is the analysis of the existing strategies in media discourse management. The introduction concerns the etymological meanings of the notion of discourse and its application. The main objective of the study is to reveal the capacity of media discourse management in expanding the consumers’ cognitive resources and maintaining stable information links in everyday life. The …

Coping with the Innovation Paradoxes: The Challenge for a New Game Leadership

2013

Abstract In times of crisis the paradoxes that are inevitably linked to the innovation process become even more pronounced. After explaining some of the key innovation paradoxes we link them to the organization model that was developed by Edith Penrose. We learn that many of the paradoxes can be explained by the difficulty to balance entrepreneurship and management as organizations grow and evolve. Next we analyze why the vitality is gone in so many of our organizations, what should be done in order to restore the vitality and how new game leadership can contribute. Finally we look at how new game leadership has to be integrated in today's business and on the role that strategic leaders can…

Cheap Sensor Made of Multicrystalline Silicon for Insolation and Temperature Measurements

2016

Abstract In the paper some results on measurement of insolation and „real” cell’s temperature carried out with use of standard silicon solar cells are presented. Two identical cells are applied in such a sensor. Short circuit current of one cell is a direct indication of insolation value and open circuit voltage of the other cell is indirect indication of actual sensor’s temperature but in this case more complex formula must be used for temperature calculation.

Interface reactivity study between La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3−δ (LSCF) cathode material and metallic interconnect for fuel cell

2011

Abstract Interface reactivity between La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3−δ (LSCF) cathode material and metallic interconnect (Crofer22APU) was investigated in laboratory air at 700 °C. Due to the interconnect geometry, two interfaces have been analysed: (i) interconnect rib/cathode interface (physically in contact); (ii) the interface under the channel of interconnect. In both cases, formation of a parasite phase was observed after various ageing treatments (20 h, 100 h and 200 h). However, the growth of the determined SrCrO4 parasite phase depends on interface type and on ageing time. Two different mechanisms have been established in function of interface type: (i) SrCrO4 phase was formed after solid …

Interesterification of rapeseed oil catalysed by a low surface area tin (II) oxide heterogeneous catalyst

2018

Abstract The interesterification of rapeseed oil was performed in a batch reactor using for the first time low surface area massive tin(II) oxide as heterogeneous catalyst and methyl acetate as acyl acceptor. The effect of reaction temperature, methyl acetate to oil molar ratio and catalyst loading on the performances of the process were investigated. Yields in fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) and triacetin (TA) up to 90% and 70% respectively, were achieved after 4 h of reaction time at 483 K in the presence of 0.69 mol of SnO per mole of rapeseed oil using a methyl acetate to oil molar ratio of 40. Quite interestingly, the catalyst performances improved when water was added to the reaction…
