Workshop on performance variations in H? ion sources 2012: PV H?12
2013
This paper briefly summarizes a workshop held in Jyvaskyla the day after NIBS’12. The half-day workshop aimed at globally capturing the issue of performance variations in H− sources. There was a focus on production facilities and facilities that work under production-like conditions, because there are often high expectations to be met.
Reconstruction of undergraduate analytical chemistry laboratory course
2016
The Analytical chemistry laboratory course at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Jyväskylä was reconstructed due to problems in the traditional arrangement, structure and contents of the course. The purposes of the reform were: to increase student-centered activity, co-operation and inquiry-based learning; to strengthen the connections to real-life; to develop students’ critical-thinking skills; and to decrease the number of drop-outs during the course. The reconstructed course includes independent laboratory work tasks and a research project. The results of the projects are presented in a course seminar. All of the laboratory experiments are done in groups of 8-10 students un…

The experimental research strategy of the endmilled aluminum alloys
2017
In this paper, the most important aspects of the research methodology of the resulted surface quality by aluminum alloys endmilling, are presented. The first part of the paper includes a short presentation of the cutting processes aluminum alloys evolution. In the second part, the research problem was defined by setting a fundamental objective and identifying the specific objectives which contribute to achieve the fundamental objective. In this context an experimental study, was performed, starting with the organization and conducting the endmilling process, in which the cutting regime were established, then the characteristic measured parameters were determined, so that the research factor…
Past, Present and Future of Process Control at Xstrata Nikkelverk
2009
MIC celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2009 and Xstrata Nikkelverk celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2010. Both anniversaries are certainly worth celebrating and with this article Xstrata Nikkelverk salutes MIC at this special occasion. This article is about process control developments at Xstrata Nikkelverk during the last 40 years. We also give an overview of the current status and a view on the current and future trends of process control at the Nikkelverk renery.
Impact of the Solar Irradiation Angle on the Work of Modules with Spherical Cells - Simulation
2018
Abstract The main purpose of all PV modules is to convert solar energy into electricity, but in the era of building integrated photovoltaics, there are additional opportunities to use them. The use of them as a composite of architectural structures in the form of facade cladding, roofing, stained glass windows or noise barriers on highways, in addition to generating electricity embellish also the aesthetic value of the facilities. However, these atypical their use, cause that the modules should have quite different properties then in the traditional application, which is related to their unusual way of positioning. Particularly for structures such as the modules made of spherical cells with…
Recent Progress in FSMA Microactuator Developments
2009
The giant magneto-strain effect is particularly attractive for actuator applications in micro- and nanometer dimensions as it enables contact-less control of large deformations, which can hardly be achieved by other actuation principles in small space. Two different approaches are being pursued to develop ferromagnetic shape memory (FSMA) microactuators based on the magnetically induced reorientation of martensite variants: (1) the fabrication of free-standing epitaxial Ni-Mn-Ga thin film actuators in a bottom-up manner by magnetron sputtering, substrate release and integration technologies and (2) the top-down approach of thickness reduction of bulk Ni-Mn-Ga single crystals to foil specime…
Student Author of the Year Award 2009
2009
The ‘‘Student author of the Year Award’’ is made for an outstanding paper in which an undergraduate or graduate student played a key role in the research and publication. The recipient of this award for 2009 is Ruben Diez Fernandez for his contribution, co-authored with Jose R. Martinez Catalan 3D Analysis of an Ordovician igneous ensemble: A complex magmatic structure hidden in a polydeformed allochthonous Variscan unit Journal of Structural Geology, Volume 31, Issue 3, March 2009, Pages 222–236. The Editors have selected this paper out of many student submissions in 2009. The basis of this paper is detailed field mapping, metamorphic petrology and structural analysis. These clearly establ…
Study of fusion reactions forming Cf nuclei
2013
The formation of a compound nucleus in different projectile and target combinations is a powerful method for investigating the fusion process. Recently, the dominance of quasi-fission over fusion-fission has been inferred for 34 S+208 Pb in comparison to 36 S+206 Pb; both reactions lead to the compound nucleus 242 Cf* .The mass and angle distributions of the fission fragments from these reactions were studied in order to further investigate the presence of quasi-fission.
Educational programs in nuclear and radiochemistry at the University of Mainz and in Germany
1993
A survey is given of the educational programs at German universities and research institutions. The program at the University of Mainz is outlined in some detail.
