Methanol fuel processor and PEM fuel cell modeling for mobile application

2010

International audience; The use of hydrocarbon fed fuel cell systems including a fuel processor can be an entry market for this emerging technology avoiding the problem of hydrogen infrastructure. This article presents a 1 kW low temperature PEM fuel cell system with fuel processor, the system is fueled by a mixture of methanol and water that is converted into hydrogen rich gas using a steam reformer. A complete system model including a fluidic fuel processor model containing evaporation, steam reformer, hydrogen filter, combustion, as well as a multi-domain fuel cell model is introduced. Experiments are performed with an IDATECH FCS1200™ fuel cell system. The results of modeling and experi…

Toxigenic potential of Fusarium culmorum strains isolated from French wheat

2001

Sixty F. culmorum strains were isolated from wheat grains collected from different wheat-growing areas in France and from different cultivars. The isolates were grown on autoclaved wheat grain to assess their ability to produce trichothecenes and zearalenone. Fungal biomass was evaluated through the ergosterol grain content. All the isolates produced zearalenone (0.39-1660 mg kg(-1)). Thirty-five of the 60 F. culmorum produced nivalenol (0.11-11.7 mg kg(-1)), 12 of 60 produced fusarenone X (0.05-8.42 mg kg(-1)), five of 60 produced 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol (0.48-27.7 mg kg(-1)), 13 of 60 produced 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol (0.07-21.0 mg kg(-1) and 24 of 60 produced deoxynivalenol (0.92-51.9 mg k…

Impact of cyclic mechanical stress on the electrical contact resistance between gas diffusion layer and bipolar plates in Polymer Electrolyte Membran…

2018

WHEC 2018, 22nd edition of the WORLD HYDROGEN ENERGY CONFERENCE, Rio de Janeiro, BRESIL, 17-/06/2018 - 22/06/2018; and collisions) and the mechanical clamping stress applied during the stack assembly. The internal stresses come from the shrinking and the swelling of the membrane caused by water content and the difference between the thermal expansion coefficients of the cell components. These mechanical stresses have an impact on the global fuel cell's performance and one of the most sensitive cell's components to this pressure is the Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL). This layer, assembled with the membrane electrode assembly, provides the reactant gases, evacuates the produced heat and …

Experimental studies on the detachment of multi-walled carbon nanotubes by a mobile liquid interface

2017

International audience; Retention and detachment of colloidal particles from surfaces is often considered only in terms of spontaneous chemical dispersion when the surface is already fully submerged. Nevertheless, interfacial processes, where the particles are caught on a mobile liquid contact line by capillary effects are ubiquitous. Theoretical description of such interfacial processes exist for spherical microcolloids, while for anisotropic shapes the literature is limited. Arc-discharge synthesized multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT) material contains besides the very anisotropic tubes also irregular amorphous carbon particles (ACP) that both are strongly hydrophobic. As a water–air–soli…

Coupled theoretical and experimental studies for the radiation hardening of silica-based optical fibers

2014

International audience; We applied theoretical and experimental spectroscopy tools to ad hoc silica-based "canonical" samples to characterize the influence of several dopants and of some drawing process parameters on their radiation sensitivities. We present in this paper, the recent advances and results occurring from our coupled approach. On the experimental side, we studied the doping influence on the response of optical fibers and showed that changing the drawing parameters has a negligible influence on the fiber response in the case of specialty fibers. We focus mainly on the ${rm SiE}^prime$ defect that is observed through Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) measurements in all cano…

Reduced reference 3D mesh quality assessment based on statistical models

2015

International audience; During their geometry processing and transmission 3D meshes are subject to various visual processing operations like compression, watermarking, remeshing, noise addition and so forth. In this context it is indispensable to evaluate the quality of the distorted mesh, we talk here about the mesh visual quality (MVQ) assessment. Several works have tried to evaluate the MVQ using simple geometric measures, However this metrics do not correlate well with the subjective score since they fail to reflect the perceived quality. In this paper we propose a new objective metric to evaluate the visual quality between a mesh with a perfect quality called reference mesh and its dis…

Les squelettes : structures d'interaction directe et intuitive avec des formes 3D

2014

The interactions in shape creation graphic applications are far from natural. The user tends to avoid as much as possible such applications and prefer to sketch or model his/her shape. To bridge this widening gap between computer and the general public, we focus on skeletons. They are intuitive shape representation models that we propose to use as direct and intuitive interaction structures. All skeletons suffer from very low quality as shape representation models, concerning the geometry of the shape they capture, the quantity of skeletal noise they contain or the lack of useful organization of their elements. Moreover, some functionalities that must be granted to skeletons are only partiall…

Modeling of a continuous photocatalytic reactor for isovaleraldehyde oxidation: Effect of different operating parameters and chemical degradation pat…

2013

International audience; An investigation of isovaleraldehyde (ISOV) photocatalytic oxidation was conducted at initial concentrations ranging from 25 to 150 mg/m3 and different relative humidities (5-90% RH) in order to characterize the process performances close to indoor air conditions. Experiments were carried out in two different reactors: cylinder and flat-plate photoreactor (planar reactor) at different air gap (20-60 mm) and gas residence times (0.67-5.0 s). A plug flow reactor system was developed in order to perform kinetic studies of (i) isovaleraldehyde removal, (ii) selectivity of CO2, (iii) byproducts formation and removal. It appears that ISOV removal efficiencies increased wit…
