Restoration and enhancement of KOS City - Greece
2012
Abusiveness phenomenon is an essentially political, social and economi-cal fact in all territories that determines a disadvantage in the community and in its environment. Architectural is “the science of living” and it is called to answer on a problem which is progressively go destroying living places. Architectural must therefore answers to housing needs. Abusiveness is a housing emergency which oppresses towns and citiziens. Architectural does-n’t feel guilty because for too many years architects did something else, cor-rupted building did the rest.
Three-dimensional object detection under arbitrary lighting conditions
2006
A novel method of 3D object recognition independent of lighting conditions is presented. The recognition model is based on a vector space representation using an orthonormal basis generated by the Lambertian reflectance functions obtained with distant light sources. Changing the lighting conditions corresponds to multiplying the elementary images by a constant factor and because of that, all possible lighting views will be elements that belong to that vector space. The recognition method proposed is based on the calculation of the angle between the vector associated with a certain illuminated 3D object and that subspace. We define the angle in terms of linear correlations to get shift and i…

Abstract. Despite the availability of both commercial and open-source software, an ideal tool for digital rock physics analysis for accurate automatic image analysis at ambient computational performance is difficult to pinpoint. More often, image segmentation is driven manually, where the performance remains limited to two phases. Discrepancies due to artefacts cause inaccuracies in image analysis. To overcome these problems, we have developed CobWeb 1.0, which is automated and explicitly tailored for accurate greyscale (multiphase) image segmentation using unsupervised and supervised machine learning techniques. In this study, we demonstrate image segmentation using unsupervised machine le…
Risk Management Era in European Credit Institutions: Predictable Mutation in XXI Century
2014
Abstract In the market economy, globalization, liberalization and diversification of financial markets, fierce competition between the credit institutions and many of the products and services offered by them are the main factors that have exposed the banking sector to new risks, while leading to multiple challenges. For these reasons it is becoming increasingly important both permanent innovation and risk management techniques tools as well as banking performance. Only a pertinent analysis and a very good knowledge of the new tendencies in banking financial risk management can provide credit institutions in Romania efficient options on their use of management, while obtaining a higher prof…
Use of Caffeine for Cognitive Enhancement
2015
Abstract Pharmacological cognitive enhancement (CE) refers to the use of divergent psychoactive substances with the purpose of enhancing one's own cognition (e.g., increasing vigilance, concentration, memory). The group of substances for CE includes divergent over-the-counter drugs. Caffeine-containing products such as coffee, caffeinated drinks, and caffeine tablets are integral part of this group of substances. Furthermore, prescription drugs as well as illicit drugs belong to this group of CE substances (e.g., [psycho-]stimulants, modafinil). The use of caffeine in normal healthy subjects has very limited procognitive effects. However, there are few procognitive effects in healthy but sl…
Cross-modal interactions between taste and smell: Odour-induced saltiness enhancement depends on salt level
2011
International audience; In recent years, health concerns related to salt have led to extensive research on low-salt foods. One major remaining issue is to reduce sodium content while still providing the salty fix, to maintain food appreciation, acceptance and choice. Using well-selected odours has been proposed to compensate for sodium chloride reduction in food, due to the cross-modal interactions between odour and taste. However, interactions between taste and odour, with regards to saltiness, remain poorly investigated. Moreover, although a few studies have assessed the influences of odour and sweet supra-threshold intensity on cross-modal interactions, none focused directly on how they …
Heterogeneous salt distribution in hot snacks enhances saltiness without loss of acceptability
2013
clef UT: 000318667000026; International audience; Abstract Health issues have led worldwide organisations to encourage the food industry to reduce salt in processed foods. Therefore, different strategies for salt reduction have been investigated. Here, the effect of heterogeneous salt distribution on saltiness perception intensity was assessed to compensate for salt reduction in snack foods. Two models of hot-served baked foods were developed. One model is made of two layers that vary in composition (cream-based and cereal-based layers) and salt (NaCl) concentration; the other one is made of four cream-based layers that vary in salt concentrations. Consumer panels rated the saltiness intens…
Comunicare il restauro
2017
This paper puts forward a comparison between the traditional way of communicating cultural heritage and a new approach that not only involves the physical use of cultural assets, but also the understanding of their identity and history, through intangible technological systems of communication. T…
Enzyme replacement and gene therapy for mucopolysaccharidoses: current progress and future directions
2015
Introduction: Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) are lysosomal storage disorders caused by the deficiency of enzymes that are responsible for the stepwise degradation of complex carbohydrates, the glycosaminoglycans. Whereas in the past the treatment of MPS consisted mainly of palliative care, enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) is now possible for some MPS disorders, and in the future many other therapeutic options will become available.Areas covered: This review, based on personal experience and the currently available literature, will give an overview on the efficacy and limitations of ERT and will discuss new therapeutic approaches, such as anti-inflammatory drugs, substrate reduction therapy, ch…
Valorizzazione e gestione delle informazioni
2017
