Predictive First-Principles Modeling of a Photosynthetic Antenna Protein: The Fenna–Matthews–Olson Complex

High efficiency of light harvesting in photosynthetic pigment–protein complexes is governed by evolutionary-perfected protein-assisted tuning of individual pigment properties and interpigment interactions. Due to the large number of spectrally overlapping pigments in a typical photosynthetic complex, experimental methods often fail to unambiguously identify individual chromophore properties. Here, we report a first-principles-based modeling protocol capable of predicting properties of pigments in protein environment to a high precision. This paper refutes the claim that Avicenna's theory of science is empiricist in the robust, Lockean sense. I argue that his denial of innatism notwithstanding, the theory of formal identity, together with the metaphysical idea that the ontological structure of the sublunary world is grounded in the active intellect, commits Avicenna to a peculiar kind of rationalism in which the ultimate source of knowledge is an intellect, albeit one extraneous to the human mind. I then introduce two hitherto insufficiently discussed texts to challenge this conclusion. Analysis of a strip loop antenna located on the surface of an open cylindrical waveguide filled with a resonant magnetoplasma

The electrodynamic characteristics of a circular loop antenna located on the surface of an open waveguide in the form of an axially magnetized plasma column are studied using the integral equation method. The current distribution and the input impedance of the antenna excited by a time-harmonic external voltage are obtained in closed form for the case where the plasma inside the column is resonant.

Tutkielma optimoi MEG (magnetoenkefalografia) mittausaineiston esikäsittelyyn, analysointiin ja visualisointiin kehitetyn Meggie-käyttöliittymän esikäsittelyvaiheita pääasiassa lisäämällä mahdollisuuden rinnakkaislaskentaan. Optimointi toimi tutkielman käytännön osuutena ja sen tukena oli kattava lista vaatimuksia. Optimoinnissa suurin osa työstä meni vanhan koodin refaktorointiin, mutta myös käyttöliittymäkomponentteihin tuli pieniä muutoksia ja itse ohjelmaan muutama uusi toiminnallisuus. We analyze structural and conformational properties in a simulated bead-spring model of a non-entangled, supercooled polymer melt. We explore the statics of the model via various structure factors, involving not only the monomers, but also the center of mass (CM). We find that the conformation of the chains and the CM-CM structure factor, which is well described by a recently proposed approximation [Krakoviack et al., Europhys. Lett. 58, 53 (2002)], remain essentially unchanged on cooling toward the critical glass transition temperature of mode-coupling theory. Spatial correlations between monomers on different chains, however, depend on temperature, albeit smoothly. This implies that the g…
