A novel teletraffic-based power saving scheme for cellular networks with microcells

As the number of network components increases to meet the explosion of mobile devices, power conservation has become an important strategy for network operators. In this paper, we propose a novel teletraffic-based approach to save power consumption of a three-cell microcellular network. When the traffic load in the middle cell is lower than certain threshold, the cell can be switched-off and its users will be covered by increasing the transmission power of one sector antenna in each of the two neighboring cells. An explanation for unexpected 802.11 outdoor link-level measurement results

This paper provides experimental evidence that "weird'/poor outdoor link-level performance measurements may be caused by driver/card-specific antenna diversity algorithms unexpectedly supported/activated at the WLAN transmitter side. We focus our analysis on the Atheros/MADWiFi card/driver case, and we observe that the transmit antenna diversity mechanisms remain by default enabled when the available antennas are not homogeneous in terms of gain or, even worse, when only a single antenna is connected. Il volume affronta il tema delle case unifamiliari, realizzate in occasione della V Triennale di Milano del 1933 e demolite dopo la chiusura della manifestazione. Dall'esiguo repertorio fotografico ed iconografico reperito dagli autori, è stato possibile "ricostruire", anche grazie all'utilizzo di modelli digitali, il processo progettuale dei singoli protagonisti al fine di mettere in evidenza gli aspetti salienti dell'architettura razionalista italiana. Il saggio illustra, attraverso il testo, le rappresentazioni e l'analisi grafica, il processo di costruzione delle case, commentando per ognuna le proprie valenze.

Design of effective wearable tags for UHF RFID applications involving persons is still an open challenge due to the strong interaction of the antenna with the human body which is responsible of impedance detuning and efficiency degradation. A new tag geometry combining folded conductors and tuning slots is here discussed through numerical analysis and extensive experimentation also including the integration of a passive motion detector. The achieved designs, having size comparable with a credit card, may be applied to any part of the body. The measured performance indicates a possible application of these body-worn tags for the continuous tracking of human movements in a conventional room.

Tutkimuksen tarkoitus oli selvittää alakoulun luokanopettajien käsityksiä ja kokemuksia koulussa käytössä olevasta kiusaamisen vastaisesta interventiomallista, KiVa Koulu -ohjelmasta tai Vaakamalli -koulutuksesta. Tarkoituksena oli myös selvittää, miten interventiomalli auttaa opettajia havaitsemaan ja ennaltaehkäisemään kiusaamista ja puuttumaan siihen. Lisäksi pyrittiin saamaan selville, mitkä asiat saavat opettajat sitoutumaan mallin käyttöön ja miten mallia koulujen arjessa toteutetaan. Tutkimusote oli laadullinen ja aineisto koostui kahdeksan luokanopettajan teemahaastatteluista, jotka analysoitiin aineistolähtöisellä sisällönanalyysillä.
