Decipher the mechanisms of protein conformational changes induced by nucleotide binding through free-energy landscape analysis: ATP binding to Hsp70.
2013
ATP regulates the function of many proteins in the cell by transducing its binding and hydrolysis energies into protein conformational changes by mechanisms which are challenging to identify at the atomic scale. Based on molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, a method is proposed to analyze the structural changes induced by ATP binding to a protein by computing the effective free-energy landscape (FEL) of a subset of its coordinates along its amino-acid sequence. The method is applied to characterize the mechanism by which the binding of ATP to the nucleotide-binding domain (NBD) of Hsp70 propagates a signal to its substrate-binding domain (SBD). Unbiased MD simulations were performed for Hsp…
Quantitative Coronary Angiography and Digital Densitometric Perfusion Measurements? How to Assess the Success of Intracoronary Balloon Dilatation
1988
Densitometric evaluation of digital subtraction angiocardiograms allows the assessment of local myocardial perfusion before and after pharmacological stimulation of coronary flow reserve during the catheterization procedure. This report deals with a case of a severe stenosis of the left coronary artery in which PTCA was regarded successful based on an appropriate increase in luminal diameter while an intima and media dissection at the dilatation site was documented. The perfusion measurements, however, pointed out a clear impairment of poststenotic myocardial perfusion after PTCA.
Lesions of Proximal Coronary Arteries
2009
Coronary artery disease (CAD) remains the leading cause of death in the Western world. Conventional coronary angiography (CCA) is the gold standard method for evaluation of the vascular lumen and provides excellent results in demonstrating stenotic lesions of CAD. However, it is an invasive procedure with a small risk of fatal events. Furthermore, CCA is a lumen-oriented technique that does not permit a direct visualization and evaluation of the coronary artery wall. The characterization of coronary plaques without a significant lumen narrowing is also not feasible with CCA. This information is relevant since the comparison of angiographic studies of coronary arteries performed before and a…
High-Frequency Rotational Angioplasty
1991
In 19 patients with significant coronary artery disease, PTCR was used instead of PTCA. The PTCR was successful in all patients, but in nine patients additional PTCA was successfully performed. Coronary luminal narrowing could be reduced from 78 ± 19% to 32 ± 14% after rotablation and by combined treatment to 21 ± 14%. Only in one patient did coronary dissection occur; the patient was sent to surgery and had an uneventful outcome. No vessel perforation was observed. In one patient peripheral diagonal branch occlusion occurred. All vessels were open according to 24-control coronary angiography. Restenosis (>70% stenosis) occurred in 4/15 patients controlled after 6 months, mainly in those wi…

Myocardial Perfusion and Fractional Flow Reserve
2013
Myocardial CT perfusion imaging is a rapidly evolving technology that allows assessment of the functional significance of potentially obstructive coronary stenosis. The opportunity for quantification of myocardial perfusion is the greatest potential advantage of CT compared with other perfusion techniques. On the other hand, fractional flow reserve during coronary angiography provides a functional assessment of coronary lesions identified with this modality. Recently, a non-invasive method for estimating fractional flow reserve, based on coronary CT angiography has been introduced. Nevertheless, at present neither CT perfusion nor CT FFR are ready for widespread use in clinical routine.

PURPOSE Evaluation of clinical relevance of coronary calcifications detected by helical CT. Evaluation of congruence with fluoroscopy (FS) and coronary angiography. Comparison with studies reporting on application of ultrafast computed tomography. MATERIALS AND METHODS 40 patients underwent helical CT (2 mm slice thickness, table-feed 3 mm/s). Coronary angiography and FS were performed in usual technique. Stenosis and calcifications were evaluated semiquantitatively. RESULTS 28 of 28 stenoses > or = 75% were detected via helical CT by evaluation of calcification (FS: 19). One non-detected solitary stenosis was calculated as 40%. FS did not detect 4 cases with 2-vessel and 3-vessel disease e…
Mens sana in corpore exhausto. Emociones y gestión de sí en escuelas secundarias del sur global
2020
In recent years, emotional education has become a central element in a series of guidelines on a global scale that have been translated into various state initiatives aimed at education. Thus, Mens sana in corpore exhausto proposes to demonstrate the tension that is expressed between the growing series of discourses on emotional education and the school climate and the exhaustive bodies of teachers and directors of public secondary schools in the Metropolitan Region of Buenos Aires (RMBA). By way of hypothesis, these policies are considered to work on the bodies of teachers and directors, encouraging them to continue and not stop under the logic of management and self-management that throw …
Topics and Argentine and Latin American Authors in Publishing Projects of the Galician Exiled in Argentina during the 40s
2016
‘We hugged each other during the cold nights’: the role of affect in an anti-deportation protest network in Finland
2021
This article analyses the role of affect and emotions in Finland’s first large-scale anti-deportation protest, the 2017 Right to Live protest in Helsinki. Despite deportation protests having recently gained scholarly attention, their emotional dimensions have not been sufficiently studied, especially as concerns the emotions of protestors with vulnerable legal status. This article is based on in-depth interviews with key activists in the anti-deportation protest network in Finland, including asylum seekers, refugees and Finnish citizens. The article argues that in order for the protest of asylum seekers facing the threat of deportation to become public and visible, it was important that cit…
