X-ray radiation exposure is of great concern for patients undergoing structural heart interventions. In addition, a larger group of medical staff is required and exposed to radiation compared with percutaneous coronary interventions. This study aimed at quantifying radiation dose reduction with implementation of specific image noise reduction technology (NRT) in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) procedures. Bypass surgery in aortoiliac or aortofemoral occlusive disease can be technically demanding and hazardous due to huge calcifications and/or patient co-morbidities. We report about mid-term results of a telescoping sutureless aortic anastomosis technique using endografts as connectors to address such challenging situations. This is a single-center experience (2004–2011) in seven patients (63 ± 6 years) requiring aortoiliac (three) or aortofemoral (four) bypass surgery. Background: Conventional two-dimensional angiography lacks the ability to properly image the true bifurcation geometry, and its percutaneous coronary intervention-induced changes in the clinical setting. Abstract Cryoplasty may reduce the incidence of post-angioplasty restenosis in peripheral atherosclerotic arteries. Suitability of the isolated perfused rat brain for studying effects on cerebral metabolism

The concentrations of P-creatine, creatine, ATP, ADP, AMP, glycogen, glucose, glucose-6-P, fructose diphosphate, dihydroxyacetone-P, α-glycero-P, lactate and pyruvate were measured in the isolated perfused rat brain as well as in rat brain in vivo. Similar levels were observed in the isolated brain and in intact animals, and the values measured were in good accordance with those described in the literature. Only the pyruvate and lactate content were significantly higher in the isolated brain but the lactate/pyruvate ratio remained unchanged. Exercise and recovery in frog muscle: metabolism of PCr, adenine nucleotides, and related compounds

The effects of exercise (swimming), fatigue, and recovery on the intracellular pH (pHi), energy-rich phosphates, and related metabolites were studied in the gastrocnemius muscle of common frogs (Rana temporaria) at 20 degrees C. Exercise caused a rapid decrease in the content of phosphocreatine (PCr) and a corresponding increase in that of Pi. The ATP level remained virtually constant for 1 min; its precipitous decrease during the following minute was associated with a rise in the contents of inosine 5'-monophosphate (IMP) and NH4+, indicating a marked activation of AMP deaminase.
