Work Stressors and Intention to Leave the Current Workplace and Profession: The Mediating Role of Negative Affect at Work.

2022

The first aim of this study was to determine whether organisational constraints, interpersonal conflicts at work, workload and negative affect at work have a positive relationship with intention to leave a current job or profession. The second aim was to investigate whether negative affect at work mediates the relationship between work stressors and intention to leave a current job or profession. The study was a quantitative cross-sectional design in nature. Data were collected between March and April 2022. The sample consisted of 306 midwives working in the Polish public health service. The theoretical model was tested using structural equation modelling. The results confirmed positive dir…

Global Communication with Icons in Environmental Contexts

2016

Icons are small signs with fixed meanings. Icons are usually context specific. For example in the context of a hotel, the client can often find icons in hotel room books and safety guides. Scandic Hotel chain, for example, currently provides the manual for its safety system in 14 languages. There are at least two major shortcomings of this system: (1) in emergency or panic situations, it is very difficult to find your own language from the leaflet, and (2) there are no Asian languages. There is an obvious need for a global icon-based hotel safety language. In our paper, we introduce an icon-based model, language and mobile application for hotel safety. peerReviewed

Miten tuulivoimaloiden rakentaminen vaikuttaa paikallisten tuulivoima-asenteisiin? : esimerkkinä Luhangan Latamäki

2015

Energiantuotantoa fossiilisilla polttoaineilla pyritään korvaamaan uusiutuvalla energialla ilmastonmuutoksen hillitsemiseksi. EU:n ja valtion tasolla asetettuihin päästövähennys-tavoitteisiin päästäkseen Suomi pyrkii muiden keinojen ohella lisäämään tuulivoimalla tuotetun sähkön määrää tuntuvasti. Tuulivoimatuotannon negatiiviset ympäristövaikutukset ovat paikallisia, minkä vuoksi paikallistason suhtautuminen tuulivoimaa ja tuulivoima-puistoja kohtaan on merkittävässä roolissa tuulivoimapuistohankkeiden etenemisen vauhdittamisessa tai hidastamisessa. Luhangan Latamäkeen rakennettiin Keski-Suomen ensimmäinen kuuden 3 MW turbiinin tuulivoimapuisto vuonna 2014. Paikallisten suhtautumista tuuli…

Board structures, liberal countries, and developed market economies. Do they matter in environmental reporting? An international outlook

2019

This is the pre-peer reviewed version of the following article: Board structures, liberal countries, and developed market economies. Do they matter in environmental reporting? An international outlook, which has been published in final form at: https://doi.org/10.1002/bse.2275. This article may be used for non-commercial purposes in accordance with Wiley Terms and Conditions for Use of Self-Archived Versions. Musculoskeletal disorders and disability among forest industry workers in lower and higher sickness absence groups: a case-control study

2019

Background: Musculoskeletal wellbeing and disorders and explanatory factors were investigated among forest industry employees. Methods: A new positive approach to maintenance of working ability focuses on being present at work. 140 individuals with low sickness absence (≤1.5% in hours during the past 6.5 years) and 140 controls with higher sickness absence (>1.5%), randomly selected from the source population (n = 636) in workplace clusters (n = 5), were studied. Questionnaire data on functioning, musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) and disability, work ability and wellbeing were collected (response rate 65%) during December 2012–January 2013. 183 employees (mean age 48.5; females 32%) particip…

The associations of quantitative/qualitative job insecurity and well-being: The role of self-esteem.

2019

Job insecurity is recognized as one of the most prominent job stressors for employees. Despite decades of research, the concurrent examination of both quantitative (i.e. perceived threat of job loss) and qualitative (i.e., perceived threat of losing some job features) job insecurity and the analysis of their different relationships with well-being at work have received relatively scarce attention. This study examined a moderated mediation model of the relationship between quantitative job insecurity and well-being at work. In doing so, the focus was on the mediating effects of qualitative job insecurity and the moderating effects of self-esteem in the abovementioned relationships. Drawing f…

Life events as predictors of unsustainable working life trajectories from a life course perspective

2022

Abstract Background The association between family-related life events (e.g., getting married or having children) and unsustainable working life in terms of unemployment, sickness absence and disability pension (SA/DP) are rarely studied from a life-course perspective although having public health importance. We investigated trajectories of unsustainable working life, and the associations between change in family-related life events and unsustainable working life trajectories by controlling for familial factors. Methods This is a prospective cohort study of 37,867 Swedish twins aged between 20-40 years on 31st December 1994. Data on trajectories of annual unemployment, SA/DP, and a combined…

Electrooxidation of diesel fuel in alkaline electrolyte

2016

In recent decades the demand of energy has increased significantly.Providing more and more energy is an essential task of today’s energetic industry. In the last few years, addition to traditional methods of energy production, alternative energy sources have been developing fast. One of these sources is fuel cell, mainly due to their high efficiency. Generally fuel cells are powered by hydrogen. However, problems with the storage of hydrogen are the reason for the search of new fuels for fuel cells. Moreover, fuel cells can provide an additional/emergency electricity source in energy systems using combustion engines. So, it is important using the main fuel for powering the fuel cell. One of …
