Ranke, Burckhardt e il "rinascimento orientale"
2020
What stance on “Eastern Renaissance” did Ranke and Burckhardt take? This subject needed to make a survey of the German-Romantic idea of the East, focusing on Herder’s anthropology. Notoriously, Ranke and Burckhardt were very different historians, but they shared a negative opinion on “Eastern…

Apuntes sobre la epigrafía romana de Valentia
2012
In this paper we provide an updated summary on Roman epigraphy of the city of Valentia. So we have reviewed the corpus of the colony and incorporated the latest…
Cave bear occupation in Schwabenreith Cave, Austria, during the early last glacial: constraints from 230 Th/U‐dated speleothems
2019
The cave bear was a prominent member of the Upper Pleistocene fauna in Eurasia. While breakthroughs were recently achieved with respect to its phylogeny using ancient DNA techniques, it is still challenging to date cave bear fossils beyond the radiocarbon age range. Without an accurate and precise chronological framework, however, key questions regarding the palaeoecology cannot be addressed, such as the extent to which large climate swings during the last glacial affected the habitat and possibly even conditioned the final extinction of this mammal. Key to constraining the age of cave bear fossils older than the lower limit of radiocarbon dating is to date interlayered speleothems using 23…
The effects of environment on Arctica islandica shell formation and architecture
2017
Mollusks record valuable information in their hard parts that reflect ambient environmental conditions. For this reason, shells can serve as excellent archives to reconstruct past climate and environmental variability. However, animal physiology and biomineralization, which are often poorly un- derstood, can make the decoding of environmental signals a challenging task. Many of the routinely used shell-based proxies are sensitive to multiple different environmental and physiological variables. Therefore, the identification and in- terpretation of individual environmental signals (e.g., water temperature) often is particularly difficult. Additional prox- ies not influenced by multiple enviro…

Enduring Sacred Places: The Astronomical Orientation of the Iberian Cave-Sanctuary of Cueva Santa del Cabriel in Spain
2019
This paper presents the results of an archaeoastronomical study of the Iberian Iron Age cave-sanctuary of Cueva Santa del Cabriel, near the town of Mira in the province of Cuenca, Castilla-La Mancha, central Spain, together with a review of the latest archaeological and ethnographical data about the site. We found that the cave's 12 m-long access corridor is oriented precisely along the summer solstice sunset, so that the north wall of the main gallery is partially illuminated by sunlight at this time. Although the cave was in use from the Late Chalcolithic, it became an important religious centre in the Iberian period. After an apparent hiatus during the Roman and Islamic occupations, its …
Plastic yielding of glass in high-pressure torsion apparatus
2018
International audience; Hardness measurements performed at room temperature have demonstrated that glass can flow under elevated pressure, whereas the effect of high pressure on glass rheology remains poorly quantified. Here, we applied a high-pressure torsion (HPT) apparatus to deform SCHOTT SF6 â glass and attempted to quantify the effect of pressure and temperature on the shear deformation of glass subjected to pressures from 0.3 GPa to 7 GPa and temperatures from 25 ℃ to 496 ℃. Results show that the plastic yield deformation was occurring during the HPT experiments on the SF6 glass at elevated temperature from 350 ℃ to 496 ℃. The yield stress of SF6 glass decreases with increasing tempe…
Photoluminescence-Based Spatially Resolved Temperature Coefficient Maps of Silicon Wafers and Solar Cells
2020
In this article, we present a method to obtain implied open-circuit voltage images of silicon wafers and cells at different temperatures. The proposed method is then demonstrated by investigating the temperature coefficients of various regions across multicrystalline silicon wafers and cells from different heights of two bricks with different dislocation densities. Interestingly, both low and high temperature coefficients are found in dislocated regions on the wafers. A large spread of temperature coefficient is observed at regions with similar performance at 298 K. Reduced temperature sensitivity is found to be correlated with the increasing brick height and is exhibited by both wafers and…
