Theatrum vel Monumentum: The Permanence of Ephemeral in the Work of Aldo Rossi
2020
At the base of the poetics of Aldo Rossi those who Manfredo Tafuri called the "unspeakable extremes", life and death, in the architectural form of the theatre and the monument are counterposed. Although Rossi has often joined them, for a long time the criticism of his work has been disinterested taking the apparent aporia between ephemeral and definitive, only with the purpose to recompose them in unities ending up in simplifying a complex reasoning that had mainly to do with a rituality of the architectural element and building contrasting sides between those who believe that the primacy of Rossi’s architecture is held by the monument and who by the theatre. This way, far from the theoreti…
El ritmo de la sociabilidad festiva en las rallas de Valencia
2018
This paper is concemed with the experience of time in the Festival of the Fallas of Valencia. It attributes a central role to the concept of festive sociability. The first section summarises basic concepts. A second part describes the Festival. The third section deals with the community's collective memory and its cyclic sense of history. The fourth describes the annual cycle of the permanent festive sociability of the Falla. A fifth section is concemed with the intensification of the rhythm of festive sociability during the Festive Event; it produces a reorganisation of time and space which go along with other relevant changes at the personal and community levéis. The participants have an …
Efectos de una crecida en un cauce antropizado. La riada del Palancia de octubre de 2000
2011
[EN] In October of 2000, the Palància River underwent a major flood, which substantially modified the morphology of the river channel. These changes took place on a river bed previously modified by public works aimed at cleaning and simplifying the river section. The flood partially restored the braided morphology, reconstructing bars and channels. Moreover, river incision processes increased, particularly downstream the Palància bridges. This process reveals a sedimentary deficit caused by reservoirs; land use changes and gravel mining. The aim of this work is to describe these processes of change and to analyze the morphosedimentary consequences, through the interpretation of aerial photo…

The book by Vincenzo Cirillo focuses on the ephemeral Neapolitan architecture of the 18th century, it excels in the exploration and deepening of the Neapolitan experience by suggesting new approaches to the historical and cultural study of the city of Naples.
Temporal dynamics of arable weeds communities assembly : interactions between farming practices and ecological processes across crop sequences
2018
Understanding how farming practices affect weed community assembly in arable fields is a core challenge of agro-ecology. Weeds are supposed to share particular ecological characteristics that allow them to colonize arable fields despite environmental constrains exert by farming practices. In addition, interactions between ecological processes operating during a cropping season (eg: abiotic filtering) and at the scale of crop succession (eg: temporal dispersal) are supposed to drive weed community assembly in arable fields. These two hypotheses have been tested in my phD work.First, we compared a pool of weed species to a pool of non-weed herbaceous plants based on several functional traits …
Above The Clouds: LabCity_Architecture
2021
The Winter Workshop “Cinema Paradise CAMPUS_Asia: SUAE_Asia 2021” brought to the attention of 14 teams and 5 Universities the challenge of contemporary architectural design in relation to a site of great naturalistic importance. In fact, the Bolognetta Valley, and in particular the location of the cave and the San Nicola waterfall, are located in the Sicilian hinterland, not far from the city of Palermo, in a context-free from the human presence. Here it is strong the necessity to find a design approach that can constitute a mediation between the built and the natural elements. The presence of the Milicia river then is also central to the whole understanding of the site, due to the restrict…
Biogeochemical Cycle of Silica in an Apolyhaline Interdunal Holocene Lake (Chad, N'Guigmi Region, Niger)
1999
During the Holocene, the apolyhaline conditions in interdunal ephemeral lakes in the Lake Chad region led to various diagenetic processes, which resulted in: (a) clay authigenesis, (b) organic matter lithification (plants and cyanobacterial mats), (c) precipitation of sodium silicate (magadiite, kenyaite, zeolite), and (d) chert neoformation. Each step in this diagenetic process involves silica, which can be highly mobile under such conditions. Therefore, the paleoenvironmental variations can be investigated using the Si cycle.http://link.springer. de/link/service/journals/00114/bibs/9086010/90860475.htm</HEA
