Mesozoic tectono-sedimentary evolution of Rocca Busambra in western Sicily

The Rocca Busambra ridge in western Sicily is a shallow to pelagic Meso-Cenozoic carbonate structural unit of the Sicilian fold and thrust belt with a variety of tectono-sedimentary features. Palaeofaults, unconformities (buttress unconformity, onlap, downlap), a network of neptunian dykes with several infilling generations, several large hiatuses, different facies and lateral facies changes, and erosional submarine and subaerial surfaces are observed. Geochemistry of phosphatic nodules as a tool for understanding depositional and taphonomical settings in a paleolithic cave site (San teodoro, Sicily)

Interpreting depositional settings of cave sites is generally problematic, especially in absence of palaeontological/archaeological evidence. This is the case of some deposits at San Teodoro Cave (Sicily), a key site for the Mediterranean Palaeolithic. In a stratigraphic level interrupted by a carbonatic concretion, phosphatic nodules are present only in the part enclosed between the concretion and the cave wall. The discovery of these nodules combined with the punctual lack of fossils had initially suggested an erosion phenomenon and subsequent formation of nodules at a vadose level. Sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa) leaves as a bio-indicator of volcanic gas, aerosol and ash deposition onto the flanks of Mt Etna in 2005–2007

Sweet chestnut leaves (Castanea sativa) collected from the flanks of Mt Etna volcano in 2005-2007 were analysed by inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry to investigate the spatial and temporal variability of element concentrations. The aim of this work was to determine whether these leaves are a bio-indicator for volcanic gas, aerosol and ash deposition and to gain new insights into the environmental effects of quiescent and eruptive volcanic plumes. Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje możliwości wytwarzania energii elektrycznej z zasobów geotermalnych. Przedstawia klasyfikację złóż geotermalnych ze względu na temperaturę płynu geotermalnego oraz technologie produkcji energii elektrycznej w elektrowniach geotermalnych pracujących w systemach klasycznej turbiny parowej oraz binarnych (ORC i Kalina). Przedstawiono problemy związane z eksploatacją złóż geotermalnych oraz funkcjonowaniem elektrowni geotermalnych na przykładzie Elektrowni Krafla na Islandii. Dokonano charakterystyki potencjalnych zagrożeń dla środowiska przyrodniczego i środowiska pracy związanych z procesem technologicznym w elektrowniach geotermalnych.

Control of oxidation-induced changes is essential for decreasing amounts of the harmful InAs surface (or interface) defects because it is hard to avoid the energetically favored oxidation of InAs surface parts in device processing. Reduction-oxidation dynamics of oxidized graphene: Functional group composition dependent path to reduction

Micrometer-sized oxidation patterns containing varying composition of functional groups including epoxy, ether, hydroxyl, carbonyl, carboxyl, were created in chemical vapor deposition grown graphene through scanning probe lithography and pulsed laser two-photon oxidation. The oxidized graphene films were then reduced by a focused x-ray beam. Through in-situ x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurement, we found that the path to complete reduction depends critically on the total oxygen coverage and concentration of epoxy and ether groups. La presente investigación analiza, a partir de textos cubanos actuales, un tipo de construcciones que proponemos denominar «secuencias ponderadoras de identificación con como». Se explica su funcionamiento en calidad de construcción lingüística peculiar mediante la descripción e interpretación de sus características morfosintácticas y semánticas. By examining current Cuban texts, this study analyzes a type of constructions which are proposed to be denominated 'emphatic sequences of identification with como'. It tries to explain these sequences as a peculiar linguistic construction by means of the description and interpretation of their morphosyntactic and semantic characteristics.
