Comparison of service tactic formation on players’ movements and point outcome between national and beginner level padel
2021
The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of service tactic formation on players’ movements and point outcome at two different performance levels. The sample contained 2,148 points corresponding to 18 matches from two male padel indoor tournaments. Players were classified according to their game level: high-level (N = 36; age = 33.3 ± 6.9 years) and beginner (N = 36; age = 35.4 ± 6.8 years). Variables pertaining to service tactic formation (conventional or Australian), point outcome and movement patterns were analysed from the matches through systematic observation. The results showed how high-level players used a significantly higher percentage of the Australian formation than beg…
A retrospective radiographic evaluation of the anterior loop of the mental nerve: Comparison between panoramic radiography and cone beam computerized…
2014
Objectives: To compare the prevalence and the length of mental loop, measured with panoramic radiography (PR) and cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT). Material and Methods: PG and CBCT images where analyzed by a single calibrated examiner to determine the presence and the position of the mental foramen (MF), its distance to the lower mandible border, the anterior length of the mental loop (ML) and the bone quality in 82 PR and 82 CBCT. Results: ML was identified in 36.6 % of PR and 48.8 % of CBCT. PR showed a magnification of 1.87 when compared to CBCT. The mean of anterior extension of the inferior alveolar nerve and the distance to the inferior border of the mandible was higher for P…
Accuracy of check-bite registration and centric condylar position
2002
In a dentate subject a jaw relation can either be determined in maximum intercuspation and is as such given by the occlusal morphology, or the mandibular position can be allocated according to the centric position of the condyles. For comprehensive restorative treatment or analytic measures of the occlusion it is important to record the centric condylar position. Various registration methods have been described in the literature, but there is no consensus on which is the 'best'. The aim of the present study was therefore to assess the accuracy of various registration methods and evaluate a possible influence of the used materials. Four dentists were involved in the clinical part of the stud…
Assessment of modifications in thickness, curvatures, and volume upon the cornea caused by disposable soft contact lens wear.
2015
Purpose To assess the effect of different disposable soft contact lenses on several corneal parameters–-thickness, anterior and posterior curvature, and volume–-by means of a Scheimpflug imaging-based device (Pentacam HR). Diurnal variations of these parameters were taken into account. Methods Twenty-one young, healthy subjects wore 4 different types of daily disposable soft contact lenses on 4 different days: Dailies AquaComfort Plus, SofLens, Dailies Total1, and Acuvue TruEye. The lenses had different material and water content. Pachymetry and curvature maps and corneal volume values were obtained using the Pentacam HR twice a day: one before putting the lens on and one after an 8-hour pe…
Can We Study Autonomous Driving Comfort in Moving-Base Driving Simulators? A Validation Study.
2016
Objective: To lay the basis of studying autonomous driving comfort using driving simulators, we assessed the behavioral validity of two moving-base simulator configurations by contrasting them with a test-track setting. Background: With increasing level of automation, driving comfort becomes increasingly important. Simulators provide a safe environment to study perceived comfort in autonomous driving. To date, however, no studies were conducted in relation to comfort in autonomous driving to determine the extent to which results from simulator studies can be transferred to on-road driving conditions. Method: Participants ( N = 72) experienced six differently parameterized lane-change and de…
Comparisons of Musculoskeletal Complaints and Data Entry Between a Sitting and a Sit-Stand Workstation Paradigm
2009
Background: Seated working positions are often regarded as a cause for discomfort in the musculoskeletal system. Performing work in different working positions—that is, alternating between sitting and standing (sit-stand workstation paradigm)—could help reduce physical complaints. Objective: The questions were whether performing office work partly in a standing position leads to reduced complaints and whether standing would change the efficiency of data entry office work. Method: We investigated the effect of a sit-stand workstation paradigmd during experimental data entry office work on physical and psychological complaints and data entry efficiency by conducting a randomized controlled t…
Double-balloon enteroscopy (push-and-pull enteroscopy) of the small bowel: feasibility and diagnostic and therapeutic yield in patients with suspecte…
2005
Background Double-balloon enteroscopy (push-and-pull enteroscopy) is a new method that allows complete visualization, biopsy, and treatment in the small bowel. This study evaluated the feasibility and the diagnostic and the therapeutic yield of double-balloon enteroscopy (push-and-pull enteroscopy) in comparison with current imaging methods. Methods Between March 2003 and November 2004, 248 consecutive double-balloon enteroscopies (push-and-pull enteroscopies) were performed in a prospective study in 137 patients with suspected small-bowel disease (60 women, 77 men; mean age 56.6 ± 17.8 years), most with chronic GI bleeding (66%). The examinations were carried out after negative evaluations…
Transpalpebral tonometry: reliability and comparison with Goldmann applanation tonometry and palpation in healthy volunteers
2005
Background/aim: TGDc-01 is a new, portable, transpalpebral tonometry device. The aim of this study was to evaluate the reproducibility of this method, including intraobserver and interobserver deviations, and to compare the results with those of Goldmann applanation tonometry and palpation of intraocular pressure (IOP). Methods: A total of 40 eyes of 20 healthy volunteers were included. Two independent parallel observers (1 and 2) performed three replicate measurements per eye, respectively, both using TGDc01 tonometry, one observer (3) performed three replicate measurements using Goldmann applanation tonometry, and one observer (4) measured the IOP via palpation. Intraindividual deviations…
Tolerability of 24-hour intraocular pressure monitoring of a pressure-sensitive contact lens.
2013
Purpose To investigate tolerability and safety of a new diagnostic device for 24-hour intraocular pressure monitoring in healthy subjects and age-matched glaucoma patients. Patients and methods Twenty healthy subjects (group 1) and 20 age-matched glaucoma patients (group 2) were included in this prospective, single-center, open, observational parallel group study. The SENSIMED Triggerfish Sensor is a soft disposable contact lens embedding a telemetry chip and strain gauge sensor for continuous intraocular pressure monitoring. The Sensor was placed in 1 eye for 24 hours. Tolerability was evaluated using a visual analog scale (range, 0 to 100; 0=no discomfort; 100=very severe discomfort). Saf…
Endoluminal therapy of GERD with a new endoscopic suturing device
2005
Background Endoscopic, endoluminal therapy might be an alternative treatment option in light of the costs of proton pump inhibitor therapy and possible complications after laparoscopic surgery. The aim of the current study was to assess the efficacy and the safety of a new endoluminal suture device (ESD) in pig models and humans. Secondly, 3 and 6 months' follow-ups were performed, and possible complications and their management were evaluated. Methods In the preclinical phase of the study, suturing procedures were practiced and evaluated in 8 pig models (Erlanger Endo Trainer). In the clinical phase, 20 patients with mild esophagitis, small or no hiatal hernia, and signs of abnormal acid e…
