Visibility without voice: Media witnessing irregular migrants in BBC online news journalism

In the analysis of journalistic representation of irregular migration to Europe, rather little attention is given to the variation of modes and genres of journalism. Most studies focus on text in ‘old media’ and the news genre. This article analyses affordances of different modalities and genres of online journalism in framing irregular migrants. Tägejä ja näiden emergenttiä ontologiaa, eli folksonomiaa on tutkittu jo vuodesta 2004 lähtien. Tänä aikana tägien käyttö on yleistynyt Internetin kautta tarjottavissa palveluissa ja kyseisten palveluiden suosio on kavanut, luoden suuren määrän tägidataa. Tätä dataa ollaan kuitenkin harvoin käytetty muuhun, kuin resurssien löytämiseen ja uudelleenlöytämiseen (jota varten data tietysti on luotukin). Taidevälitys laajenee vähitellen perinteisten välitysväylien lisäksi digitaalisiin kanaviin. Tämä pro gradu -tutkimus on laadullinen tapaustutkimus, jossa tarkastelen viiden monikanavaisen taidegallerian toimintaa Suomessa. Considering the exponential growth of artistic residencies between 1990 and 2010 at an international level, artists working in associated mobility programmes have been challenged by unsettled transnational working practices and competition. This, in turn, provides them with the opportunity to develop their creative processes. This research is a hybrid of a monograph and a multiple-article dissertation. Its theoretical starting point is a phenomenologically based view of the being of the image, in which Georges Didi-Huberman´s work plays a central role. For him, as well as for Mieke Bal, a historical work of art is never only in the distant past only but also exists in the present actuality. This makes the temporality of the Image extremely complex. The Image can be encountered only “pre-posterously” (Bal) or by reading it “against the grain” (Didi-Huberman). The Image is necessarily anachronistic; it is not in time but opens up time.
