What Contributes to the Measured Chiral Optical Response of the Glutathione-Protected Au25 Nanocluster?

2023

The water-soluble glutathione-protected [Au25(GSH)18]−1 nanocluster was investigated by integrating several methodologies such as molecular dynamics simulations, essential dynamics analysis, and state-of-the-art time-dependent density functional theory calculations. Fundamental aspects such as conformational, weak interactions and solvent effects, especially hydrogen-bonds, were included and found to play a fundamental role in assessing the optical response of this system. Our analysis demonstrated not only that the electronic circular dichroism is extremely sensitive to the solvent presence but also that the solvent itself plays an active role in the optical activity of such system, formin…

Chemical characterization of Anthemis parlatoreana fresh and dried aerial parts by GC and LC chromatographic techniques and evaluation of the antioxi…

2022

Anthemis parlatoreana was collected in the north west coast of Sicily. Fresh and dried aerial parts were subjected to distillation procedure for the extraction and isolation of essential oils. In both fresh and dried samples, the most abundant chemical classes were ketones and esters, represented to a greater extent by β-thujone and β-artemisia acetate, respectively. In dried vegetable material, a high content of α-pinene and δ3-carene was also registered. Aqueous, methanol and ethyl acetate extracts of aerial parts were also investigated in terms of polyphenolic content and antioxidant potential. All the extracts tested showed a quite different quali-quantitative profile and in terms of ch…

Seasonal variations of antimicrobial activity and chemical composition of Citrus limon L. Burm. spp. essential oils

2013

The interest towards the application of essential oils (EOs) is increasing due to the antimicrobial potential to be used as “natural” alternative to the chemical preservation of foods [1]. EOs are aromatic oily liquids produced as secondary metabolites in various plants exerting different biological properties, such as antibacterial, antiviral, antimycotic and insecticidal. EOs are complex mixtures of lipophilic substances and the chemical composition, thereby the biological activities, is influenced by the raw plant material (genotype, part of the plant, harvest time, geographical, ecological conditions and cultural techniques) and extraction method [2].

Familial essential thrombocythemia: 6 cases from a mono‐institutional series

2022

Rarely essential thrombocythemia (ET) is diagnosed in more than one person within a family. Familial myeloproliferative neoplasms are underdiagnosed. In this report, we describe 6 couples of familial ET, evaluating the heterogeneity of the mutational state and the clinical presentation.

Triple-Negativity Identifies a Subgroup of Patients with Better Overall Survival in Essential Thrombocythemia

2022

Essential thrombocythemia, as defined by the WHO in 2016, is a Philadelphia-negative chronic myeloproliferative neoplasm showing a better prognosis than polycythemia vera and myelofibrosis. In a variable percentage, patients with essential thrombocythemia show none of the known driver-gene mutations that may occur on JAK2, CALR, and MPL genes. Such patients are classified as triple-negative and their clinical features and prognosis have not been described with precision yet. In this study, we evaluated some of the characteristics of this population by comparing them with those of patients with driver-gene mutated ET. Data from 266 consecutive essential thrombocythemia patients were analysed…

Chemical Composition and Free Radical Scavenging Activity of the Essential Oil of Achillea ligustica Growing Wild in Lipari (Aeolian Islands, Sicily)

2013

In the present study the chemical composition of the essential oils from aerial parts and flowers of Achillea ligustica All., collected in Lipari (Aeolian Islands) was evaluated by GC and GC-MS. ( Z)-Chrysanthenyl acetate was the most abundant component of both oils (29.6% in A1 and 27.8% in F1), followed by viridiflorol (16.8% in A1 and 21.6% in F1), bornyl acetate (8.7% in A1 and 11.6% in F1) and 1,8-cineole (7.4% in A1 and 9.3% in F1). A comparison was made of the composition of the different populations studied so far. Futhermore, the free radical scavenging activity of the oil was determined by DPPH and ABTS methods.

Chemical variability in the essential oil of Cinnamomum tamala L. leaves from India.

2011

The chemical composition of the essential oils obtained from the fresh leaves of Cinnamomum tamala Nees et Eberm. was determined by GC and GC–MS. The yield of the oil on a dry weight basis ranged from 1.2% to 3.9% (w/w). Phenyl propanoids constitute the major portion (88.9–95.0%) of the oils. Fifty-four compounds were identified from the oils. Eugenol (91.4–41.8%) was the main compound, followed by eugenyl acetate (0.0–47.1%) and α-phellandrene (0.6–2.5%) in the analysed oils.

Essential Oil Composition of the Aerial Parts of FiveOcimumspecies from Western India

2015

AbstractChemical composition of the essential oils of five Ocimum species namely Ocimum tenuiflorum syn Ocimum sanctum L. (green and purple), Ocimum kilimandscharicum Guerke, Ocimum viride Willd, Ocimum basilicum L. and Ocimum gratissimum L., obtained by a hydrodistillation was determined by GC and GC-MS. A total of one hundred three compounds were identified in the oils of five Ocimum species, of which fifteen compounds were found to be major (5.0–81.8 %) compounds. Analysis of Ocimum viride oil showed the highest amount of eugenol (81.8 %) among species besides germacrene D (7.0 %) and cis-ocimene (4.1 %). Ocimum tenuiflorum green and Ocimum tenuiflorum purple were found contain eugenol (…
