Exposure to Gastric Acid Inhibitors Increases the Risk of Infection in Preterm Very Low Birth Weight Infants but Concomitant Administration of Lactof…

2018

Objective: To investigate whether exposure to inhibitors of gastric acidity, such as H2 blockers or proton pump inhibitors, can independently increase the risk of infections in very low birth weight (VLBW) preterm infants in the neonatal intensive care unit. Study design: This is a secondary analysis of prospectively collected data from a multicenter, randomized controlled trial of bovine lactoferrin (BLF) supplementation (with or without the probiotic Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG) vs placebo in prevention of late-onset sepsis (LOS) and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in preterm infants. Inhibitors of gastric acidity were used at the recommended dosages/schedules based on the clinical judgmen…

Market Values and Socioeconomic Mixité in Palermo. The Role of Migrants in the Commercial Real Estate Market

2022

Socioeconomic and functional mixité has been an objective placed at the basis of urban development to guide the transformation processes of urban areas, associating it with social inclusion as opposed to the morphological and spatial segregation, often caused by monofunctional zoning. The implementation of social mixité involves all social groups and, particularly, migrant communities that, in turn, are formed by groups with different cultures, nationalities, resources and income levels. The location choices of migrants and native residents produce an ever-changing urban geography of residential, commercial and service activities that directly impact on the real estate market. Migrants’ act…

An Estimative Model of Automated Valuation Method in Italy

2017

The Automated Valuation Method (AVM) is a computer software program that analyzes data using an automated process. It is related to the process of appraising an universe of real estate properties, using common data and standard appraisal methodologies. Generally, the AVM is based on quantitative models (statistical, mathematical, econometric, etc.), related to the valuation of the properties gathered in homogeneous groups (by use and location) for which are collected samples of market data. The real estate data are collected regularly and systematically. Within the AVM, the proposed valuation scheme is an uniequational model to value properties in terms of widespread availability of sample …

Climate mitigation and intensified forest management in Norway: To what extent are surface waters safeguarded?

2020

AbstractWhile the role of forestry in mitigating climate change is increasingly subject to political commitment, other areas, such as water protection, may be at risk. In this study, we ask whether surface waters are sufficiently safeguarded in relation to the 2015 launch of a series of measures to intensify forest management for mitigation of climate change in Norway. First, we assess how impacts on water are accounted for in existing regulations for sustainable forestry. Secondly, we provide an overview of the impacts of forestry on water quality relevant to three support schemes: afforestation on new areas, increased stocking density in existing forests, and forest fertilisation. Lastly,…

This article analyzes the life of Basque nationalism during the Second Spanish Republic and its adequation to the new constitutional framework. The author explores the centrality of the Basque Nationalist Party from the very beginning and its rejection by republican Spanish elites…

Banking Competition, Housing Prices and Macroeconomic Stability

2012

We develop a dynamic general equilibrium model with an imperfectly competitive bank-loans market and collateral constraints that tie investors credit capacity to the value of their real estate holdings. Banks set optimal lending rates taking into account the effects of their price policies on their market share and on the volume of funds demanded by each customer. Lending margins have a significant effect on aggregate variables. Over the long run, fostering banking competition increases total consumption and output by triggering a reallocation of available collateral towards investors. However, as regards the short-run dynamics, we find that most macroeconomic variables are more responsive …
