Carbon and nitrogen stabile isotope ratio and heavy metals in Leccinum aurantiacum in a hybrid aspen plantation in agricultural land
2020
Edible mycorrhizal fungi can be harvested in the fourth year after establishment of a hybrid aspen plantation in previous agricultural land at hemiboreal conditions. It is important to understand the role of fungi in element cycling at the ecosystem level as well as the amounts of elements, including heavy metals, that are accumulated in fruitbodies of edible fungi in the context of food safety. Therefore we evaluated the carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratio and content of heavy metals (Cr, Pb, Mn, Ni, Cd, Cu and Zn) in Leccinum aurantiacum (Bull.) Gray in a juvenile hybrid aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx. × Populus tremula L.) plantation in agricultural land initially fertilised with …
Smart city initiatives, public real estate strategic management and new venture creation.
2015
During the last decade, academics have been involved in an interesting debate around the development of the so called Smart City Initiatives. In the prevailing mind-set, the success of the aforementioned initiatives has been based on pillars like ICT infrastructures, human capital, mobility, environment etc. This chapter focuses on the role played by public property assets within the framework of the Smart City initiatives, with a specific focus on those programs that aim to stimulate the creation of entrepreneurial ecosystem. More in detail, the research provides a theoretical and analytical scheme helping policy makers opt for the most suitable choices relating to the public property port…
The ‘value of solidarity’ in the public housing stock alienation. a case study in palermo (italy)
2020
As many low-income households have still been facing the problem of affordable housing, in several countries governmental institutions have implemented various measures of housing policy and are supporting both the “right to housing” and the “right to buy” a dwelling at a subsidized price. Alienation of public housing is a political measure mostly directed towards low-income tenants, by which the dwellings are sold at a price set by law, assumed as a “administered” price. The gap between market and administered prices may be considered as the “value of solidarity” to be taken into account as the monetary reference of the social housing welfare policies aimed at reducing social inequities. T…
Efficiency versus Fairness in the Management of Public Housing Assets in Palermo (Italy)
2019
Public housing policy has been proposing plans of public housing (PH) stock alienation or, as an alternative, property enhancement plans, since administrative and financial commitments have become too heavy for municipalities. This paper deals with one of the current public housing management policy initiatives, undertaken by the Municipality of Palermo (Italy), which aimed at transferring a significant part of the public housing asset to the current tenants, according to some terms and conditions, and applying a politically fixed price. This policy is described in general, focusing on the amount of the assets involved, reporting the terms and conditions for transferring them at an affordab…
URBAN REGENERATION AND BUILT HERITAGE
2021
The rehabilitation project is mainly addressed to the adaptation of new housing and urban needs, but it is obviously conditioned and/or “constrained” by the limitation of the building itself, in particular when its intrinsic characteristics must be preserved. In this paper we focus on some aspects of the general framework of urban regeneration: the balance on the “urban question” and on the methodology of integrated planning; the connection between quality and urban liveability; the sharing of the objectives of regeneration and its meanings. Without claiming to be exhaustive, some of the “enabling” conditions and the “indispensable” reasons and conditions for guiding the process of urban re…
Values, cities and migrations. Real estate market and social system in a multi-cultural city

The book consists of seventeen papers in two parts. The first part, “Values and Relationship Systems in Multicultural Societies”, features how social sciences––including appraisal and valuation, urban planning, philosophy, psychology, and geography––take different approaches to studying values and relationships, converging to form a unified mosaic of complementary and interconnected knowledge. The second part, “Transformations, Permeability and Permanence of Values in Contemporary Multicultural Cities”, highlights the most crucial topics on which appraisals and models focus to interpret and represent the influence of migration on the real estate market in different urban and territorial con…
Real estate crowdfunding: potential in Latvia
2017
Currently the economic environment is changing rapidly. The millennium’s development phase was followed by global financial crisis, which has changed the rules of game for all financial players and made others’ think outside the box. After the economic crisis people started losing trust in traditional financial institutions like banks, where all the processes are still very bureaucratic. Overregulated bank lending system could not satisfy the credit demand of small to medium size enterprises, thus triggering the need for a new, innovative financing model to fill the gap. At the same time, the communication afforded by Internet and information technologies opened up new opportunities. Taking…
