Tässä pro gradu -työssä tutkittiin, voidaanko anaerobisen mädätyksen toimintaa parantaa lisäämällä mädätysprosessiin pieniä määriä biohiiltä. Anaerobista mädätystä tutkittiin laboratoriomittakaavan biokaasukokeilla, joissa biokaasureaktoreita käsiteltiin sekä pyrolyyttisesti että hydrodermaalisesti tuotetulla biohiilellä. Abstract Biological production of second generation biofuels such as biohydrogen (H2) or methane (CH4) represents a promising alternative to fossils fuels. Alkaline pretreatments of lignocellulosic biomass are known to enhance the accessibility and the bioconversion of hollocelluloses during anaerobic digestion and dark fermentation processes. The article is dedicated to Professor Woldemar von Knieriem (1849– 1935), who has made a significant contribution to the development of agricultural science, headed the Department of Agriculture of Riga Polytechnic Institute (1903–1906), as well as Training and Experimental Farm «Peterhof» (1880– 1915) near Olaine city. It became a model farm not only in the Baltic region but also throughout the Russian Empire.
